Hilary Duff Drops Provocative New Track and Addresses Mom Group Controversy
Hilary Duff is amplifying the intensity with a provocative new song that fans are already declaring "song of the year."
“I’m only seeking the beginning, I don’t desire the conclusion / I crave the moment you utter ‘damn it’ / Performing oral sex in the back of a rundown bar / Then sneaking home late, waking up my roommates,” Duff, 38, sings in a video posted via Instagram on Wednesday, January 7, showcasing her explicit lyrics about passionate encounters and a fading romance in the clip.
“I want the best parts, a perfect 10 / The excitement of holding your hand / Before we disappeared under the covers / And we essentially became roommates / I’m pleasuring myself near the front door / But you barely acknowledge my presence anymore,” she continues.
The pop artist unveiled a preview of her single from her forthcoming album, Luck… Or Something, and effectively distanced herself from the "unhealthy" mother group controversy she was embroiled in following a personal essay penned by Ashley Tisdale French and published on The Cut. (Although French, 40, didn’t name anyone in her January 1 post, online investigators are convinced she was alluding to her celebrity group of mom friends that includes Duff, Mandy Moore, Meghan Trainor and others.)
In the clip, Duff wore a crisscross yellow dress as she shimmered in the sunlight and mouthed the lyrics while standing in a lush green field. Her arm tattoos were prominently visible.
“Hilary. I suspect this album will define my entire personality,” one fan commented on her latest clip, while another enthusiastically stated, “This reel knocked the juice box out of my hand and replaced it with a questionable beverage in a plastic cup. I’m loving this.”
Duff’s new album is scheduled for release on February 20, several months after she shared the initial single, “Mature,” in November. This will be her first album since 2015.
Who Is in Ashley Tisdale's Celeb Mom Group? Everything to Know
Her husband, Matthew Koma, was among those to express support in the comments section, writing, “That’s my girl.” (The former Lizzie McGuire actress shares three children with Koma: daughters Banks, 7, Mae, 4, and Townes, 20 months. Duff also shares a son, Luca, 13, with ex-husband Mike Comrie.)
Prior to his display of support for her song, Koma, 38, also addressed the "unhealthy" mother group drama, taking to social media on Tuesday, January 6, to share a “promotion” of his own fictional article with The Cut.
“A mother group exposé through a father’s perspective,” Koma’s satirical post read. “When you’re the most self-absorbed and out-of-touch individual on earth, other mothers tend to shift their attention to their actual toddlers.”

Despite the persistent speculation that Duff was among the mothers that French wrote about, the High School Musical star’s representative refuted the rumors that she was referring to Duff, Moore, 41, or Trainor, 32, according to TMZ.
The representative added that French had intended her piece, titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group,” to highlight a relatable issue about being excluded from a friend group.
