Hilary Duff Returns to Music a Decade Later, Ready to Connect with Fans on a New Level
After a ten-year hiatus, Hilary Duff has finally launched new music, citing a compelling motivation for her reentry into the entertainment world.
“It was inevitable; music was always destined to be a chapter in my life,” stated the 38-year-old Duff on the November 5 episode of the “Therapuss” podcast. She added, “Being married to a musician like Matthew Koma, stepping back from music for a decade, and reaching 38, I feel perfectly aligned with my current stage in life.”
She further explained, “I felt prepared to complete what’s missing, to engage and resonate with audiences at this point in time. My career spans over two and a half decades, and it has undeniably involved numerous changes, successes, and challenges.”
The artist, who rose to fame on the Disney Channel, launched her debut album in 2002 and her most recent one in 2015. During her break from recording music, Duff dedicated herself to acting, headlining series like Younger and How I Met Your Father, alongside her commitment to family. (Duff, 38, and Koma, also 38, are parents to three daughters, and Duff has a son named Luca from an earlier relationship.)

Duff unveiled her inaugural single in a decade, titled “Mature,” on Thursday, November 6, expressing her desire for the new material to deeply connect with her audience's experiences.
“I share an incredible bond with fans I've known since I was nine or ten, and I'm eager to reconnect with them once more in the present,” she revealed to podcast host Jake Shane. “I believe we have navigated many similar life events, be it intricate relationships, stress, parenting, marital separations, or navigating self-discovery amidst adult and familial complexities.”
Without disclosing precise particulars, Duff conveyed that she “eventually felt secure enough” to open up about her journey.
“[I felt] confident within my family to venture out and expose that facet of myself once more,” she remarked. “[Furthermore], I was at ease with returning now, accepting that the scale might be different from when I toured arenas and accomplished grand feats in my youth, and that’s perfectly fine.”

Although Duff has only released “Mature” to date, she is receptive to embarking on a tour in the future.
“I can only express my immense anticipation to reconnect with my audience in person very soon. I've yearned for their presence and the thrill of live performance,” Duff shared with Vogue earlier this week regarding potential touring. “It has been truly enjoyable to unearth this aspect of myself anew, integrated into the individual I am today. I am thrilled to present this track to everyone, and there's much more on the horizon. I’ve dedicated significant effort, and I envision 2026 as a celebratory tour.”
While keeping further details under wraps, Duff is evidently appreciative that her vast fan base continues to support her.
“The last few weeks have been quite profound emotionally. My mindset often starts with, ‘Do people still care about me? Do they even recall my past in music?’” the “Come Clean” vocalist confessed to the publication. “That's the authentic Texas spirit in me, still pushing me to embody confidence until it becomes second nature. With the 25th anniversary of Lizzie McGuire approaching, I cherish the privilege of having had such a significant impact on many during a pivotal period in their lives. While it's always touching to hear that, it occasionally resonates deeply because I have so much more to articulate. I am prepared to present a new version of myself.”
