Ben Stiller

“This is a profound loss,” Stiller commented on X. “Rob Reiner ranked among my preferred directors. He created several films that shaped my generation. He emerged from under the significant comedic legacy of the legendary Carl Reiner and transitioned from a television actor to an exceptional director with a remarkable string of hits. Spinal Tap stands as one of the finest comedies ever produced, and his achievements continue far beyond that. He was a gentle, compassionate person with a brilliant sense of humor.” The actor concluded, “While I didn't know him intimately, I always admired his work, and I feel genuine sorrow for those close to him and his family.”

Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest

“Christopher and I are feeling numb, sorrowful, and shocked by the tragic and violent passing of our cherished friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner. Our primary concern right now is for their children and immediate family members, and we plan to provide all necessary assistance to support them,” the couple shared in a joint statement to Variety. “There will be ample opportunity later to reflect on the creative endeavors we shared and the substantial political and social influence they both held within the entertainment sector, early childhood education advocacy, the struggle for marriage equality, and their global commitment to addressing world crises. We have lost wonderful friends. We kindly request time to process this grief,” the married celebrities stated further.

Stephen King

“I am appalled and distressed by the passing of Rob Reiner and Michele. A fantastic friend, political comrade, and masterful filmmaker (responsible for adapting two of my works). Rest in peace, Rob. Jerry O’Connell

“I love you, Rob. Truly,” the actor posted on X, accompanying a picture of himself and Rob from the set of the 1986 film Stand by Me.

Norman Lear Family

“The Lear Family is shattered by the loss of Rob and Michele Reiner,” the relatives of the late television legend stated in a communication to Deadline. “Norman frequently called Rob his son, and their bond was truly exceptional, both to us and to the public. Norman would have wanted to emphasize that Rob and Michele dedicated their lives to improving this country, achieving this through their art, advocacy, charitable works, and devotion to loved ones. Lyn Lear remained extremely close to them and commented, 'The world feels distinctly darker tonight, leaving us completely lost.'” Lear was the creator of All in the Family, which launched Reiner’s career in Hollywood.

“Michelle and I are deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of Rob Reiner and his cherished wife, Michele,” the former U.S. president posted on X. “Rob’s accomplishments in cinema and television provided us with some of our most treasured narratives. However, behind every story he created was a strong conviction in human kindness—and a steadfast dedication to acting on that conviction throughout his life. Together, he and his wife led lives guided by meaningful objectives. They will be remembered for the principles they advocated for and the countless individuals they motivated. We offer our most profound sympathies to everyone who cared for them.”

Gavin Newsom

California Governor Gavin Newsom posted on X, “Jen and I are devastated by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.” The politician continued, “Rob was a generous-hearted visionary responsible for numerous classic narratives we adore, creating projects spanning from The Princess Bride to A Few Good Men. His unlimited compassion endowed his stories with timeless quality, instructing subsequent generations on how to recognize virtue and integrity in others — and motivating us to aspire to greater things.” Newsom further stated, “This compassion extended far beyond his filmmaking. Rob was a devoted champion for children and civil rights—from confronting Big Tobacco, campaigning for marriage equality, to acting as a formidable voice in early childhood development. He improved California through his positive contributions.” He concluded, “Rob's legacy will include his impressive film catalog and his extraordinary impact on mankind.”

Sean Astin

Rob Reiner stands among the most important personalities in cinematic and television history. His influence on American culture cannot be exaggerated,” the SAG-AFTRA president commented in a statement released by the union. “Condolences will flow, and the incredibly extensive catalog of genre-defining films and memorable performances will stay vivid in our memories and emotions. Rob Reiner maintained membership in our union for almost 60 years. We extend our sympathy and support to the families, friends, and colleagues of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. A clever, gifted, and deeply considerate individual. So terrible.”

I became extremely flustered upon seeing him, his wife, and daughter seated behind me. I volunteered for a sketch during the ASSCAT show and somehow ended up lip-syncing ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ by The Verve using my stomach instead of my mouth. It was completely ridiculous, but I kept telling myself, ‘Give it everything. Rob Reiner is observing this.’” “During the break, we chatted for approximately 5-10 minutes about my recent move to LA from Michigan. He mentioned how much he enjoyed filming in Michigan and graciously shared anecdotes about co-writing the marital drama The Story of Us with Alan Zweibel and his wife, explaining what a fascinating process it was. He also described his desire to utilize anamorphic lenses to enhance the sense of scale in the courtroom scenes of A Few Good Men,” Hauser continued. “He treated me with the kind of warmth and detailed personal stories that few people in his position would share with a complete stranger. And he commented, ‘What you did with your stomach. That was funny,’” the actor added. “I despise the fact that Rob and his wife are no longer here, but they undeniably influenced me and innumerable others during their time on Earth,” he shared. Hauser finished by stating, “I feel physically ill. I'm returning to work on set. I will carry his inspiration with me as I perform the job he motivated me to do.”

The world has lost two extraordinary people.
