Hulk Hogan Son Fights Documentary Release Over Father's Infamous Sex Tape

A legal dispute concerning the planned release of a documentary about Hulk Hogan, incorporating segments from the former WWE legend's notorious private video, intensified in court this week, as Us Weekly has learned exclusively.

On September 11, Woltz Films, the creators of the documentary titled Video Killed The Radio Star, submitted legal documents challenging a recent temporary restraining order secured by Hulk's son, Nick Hogan, which prevents the dissemination of any part of the controversial recording.

Nick, aged 35, initiated a lawsuit against his father's former associate, Bubba The Love Sponge (whose real name is Todd Clem), claiming he was involved in the documentary's creation. The production purports to reveal previously undisclosed information surrounding the well-known sex tape featuring Hulk, recorded in 2006 with Bubba’s then-spouse, Heather Clem.

In his legal complaint, Nick asserted that segments of the sex tape appeared in the promotional trailer. He further contended that the documentary breached an earlier agreement his deceased father had made with Bubba in 2012.

A temporary restraining order was issued by the court on September 4.

According to Woltz Films' latest court submission, the company stated that Bubba is neither affiliated with the documentary's production nor is he an active member of Woltz.

“He is neither a member nor an officer of Woltz, possesses no authority over the documentary's content, and holds no ownership stake in either the film or Woltz,” the company declared.

Woltz indicated that the restraining order disrupted the planned release date of Friday, September 12, across major streaming platforms like “Apple, Amazon and Google.”

Attorneys representing the company contended, “Woltz holds the sole creative and production rights for the Documentary, sourcing its material entirely from publicly accessible news reports and other legally acquired origins.”

“The Documentary spans roughly 90,000 seconds and incorporates, in various brief segments, video and photographic elements from news coverage of the sex tape, gathered from existing online media outlets, amounting to approximately 38 seconds,” the lawyer further elaborated.

Woltz’s legal representative refuted claims that the filmmakers possessed the complete sex tape in question.

Their legal filing stated, “Woltz has never possessed, nor currently possesses, access to the original recording of the sex tape; has not acquired any genuine sex tape footage from [Bubba]; and did not incorporate any authentic footage of the sex tape from [Bubba] into the documentary, instead relying on publicly accessible and verifiable media coverage of the event.”

The company expressed that “due to the expansive wording of the [restraining order], which makes no allowances for public domain material or fair use as permitted by relevant law, coupled with the communications sent to Woltz and presumably to other media outlets, the [restraining order] poses an immediate and direct threat that Woltz’s rights could be restricted without a proper hearing, risking substantial financial harm.”

Woltz reported that following two days of presales, the film achieved the top ranking for documentaries and the 28th position overall for movies on iTunes.

The company requested judicial intervention. Woltz asserted that the film's content is safeguarded under the First Amendment.

Upon being approached for a statement, Nick’s legal representatives declined to comment on Woltz’s assertions.

Hulk passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 71.

As initially disclosed by Us, Nick submitted legal documents on Tuesday, September 9, seeking to be appointed as co-administrator of his deceased father’s estate. Hulk’s daughter, Brooke Hogan, was not listed as a beneficiary of the estate. TMZ previously reported that she had requested removal from Hulk’s will prior to his passing.
