Ice-T and Coco Austin's enduring love story began with a snakeskin suit and a clever pickup line.
Ice-T and Coco Austin have proven their enduring connection as a celebrity couple since their initial meeting in 2001.
The pair first connected on a film set that year and have maintained a strong bond ever since. The "I’m Your Pusher" musician recounted the encounter during a 2017 Mario Lopez: One on One interview.
“[I inquired], ‘Would you ever consider a relationship with a hard-core rapper?’” Ice-T recalled. “The reason I posed that question, Mario, is I was sporting a vibrant red snakeskin suit.”
Austin admitted she “was unfamiliar with the concept of a hard-core rapper” due to her background as a “white girl from a privileged area,” so she responded, “Oh, well, if he’s pleasant.”
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor swiftly replied, offering, “Well, darling, if you remove the initial letter from ‘pleasant’, you get ‘Ice.’”
The charming approach succeeded as the couple began dating across long distances — Ice-T was based in New York for Law & Order, while Austin pursued her career as a model in California. Their romance developed rapidly, and they exchanged vows on New Year’s Eve in 2001. Us Weekly subsequently verified that the pair didn’t officially register their marriage until January 2006 in Nevada, according to official records.
The pair later welcomed their daughter, Chanel, in 2015, and have remained dedicated to their partnership for over 25 years.
