Influencer Adair Mendes Dutra Junior Dies at 31 After Cosmetic Surgery Complications

Online personality Adair Mendes Dutra Junior has reportedly passed away after experiencing health complications subsequent to a cosmetic surgical procedure. He was 31 years old.

People magazine disclosed on Monday, October 6, that the style influencer died on Friday, October 3. Before his death, Junior had gathered a following of over 100,000 users on Instagram.

In an interview conducted a month prior to Junior’s demise, the influencer alleged he developed an infection following a cosmetic operation he underwent months earlier, performed by surgeon Fernando Garbi. Junior informed Brazilian news network Feed TV that he sought medical care at a local hospital due to the infection.

He also supplied the outlet with video recordings seemingly depicting the influencer undergoing the procedure on his face, including a clip where Junior’s face appeared discolored and swollen. The content creator asserted at the time that he was under the supervision of a dermatologist.

After Junior’s passing, his friend Gean Souza recounted the influencer’s final days in a discussion with Brazilian magazine Quem. Souza claimed in the interview, translated into English, that Junior developed an infection and “became unwell, felt severely short of breath, and was transported to the nearest emergency department at a public hospital” on Friday.

Prior to his death, Junior submitted a formal request for an investigation against Garbi to the 15th Police District of São Paulo, according to legal documents obtained by Brazilian news source Portal Leo Dias. Junior reportedly initiated legal action against Garbi for six distinct offenses, including the unauthorized practice of medicine, deceptive misrepresentation, and grievous bodily harm, as reported by People.

In a declaration from Garbi’s legal counsel, which was disseminated via the doctor’s Instagram profile, he denied having any “link” to Junior’s death. The message, which was rendered in English, contended that assertions suggesting otherwise were made “by individuals seeking fleeting moments of public recognition.”

“All legal recourse, in both civil and criminal capacities, will be pursued against those responsible for the insults and defamation, so that they may be held accountable, to the precise extent of their liabilities, for the damages inflicted upon Doctor Fernando,” the message read, which was published on Sunday, October 5.

In March, Garbi additionally refuted to Portal Leo Dias that Junior’s alleged infection was connected to the cosmetic procedure.

In one of Junior’s final Instagram posts before his passing, the influencer reflected on his life while sharing a series of photographs of himself posing for the camera.

“An account of my current feelings: at peace with my decisions, resilient through challenges, and progressively authentic to my fundamental nature,” the Instagram caption from August stated, translated into English. “Existence is composed of instances — and I elect to experience mine with grace and integrity.”
