He also published a poetry collection in 2019 called A Lazy Poet.During the months leading up to his death, Damisa spoke openly about his mental health challenges and what led him to take a break from social media.“October truly tested me, mentally, emotionally, and in ways I didn’t anticipate. Some days felt overwhelming and some lessons impacted me deeply, but I persevered,” he wrote in an October 31 post.Damisa continued, “I learned about patience, discipline, and the kind of strength that only emerges when life challenges you. Here’s to entering the remainder of the year with a clearer mind, a more stable heart, and a quiet confidence in what lies ahead.”On November 10, Damisa wrote, “I was quiet for a while. Many people, especially my friends, are still inquiring where I’ve been and why I vanished, not just online, but in life as well. It reached a point where everything felt too intense and I simply couldn’t keep up. The things that once brought me joy began to feel burdensome, and even the simplest moments lost their sparkle. It wasn’t solely social media I lost interest in… it was life itself. Numerous things lost their significance and each day afterward just rushed by in a blur, leaving me behind.”He continued, “I stepped away, to breathe, to remember who I was beneath all the noise. I took a pause long enough to feel alive again. Gradually, I am rediscovering pieces of myself, in small joys, in honest conversations and most especially in the quiet moments. So forgive me if you felt like I disappeared on you. I did on myself too. I am learning to fall back in love, with life, with peace, and showing up even when it feels like a struggle so this one is a cheers to everyone who’s ever gone through days like this and to taking it all one day at a time.”If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, assistance is available.
