Jack Osbourne Recounts Devastating 3 AM Call Revealing Ozzy Osbourne's Death

Jack Osbourne is sharing details regarding the instant he learned of his father, Ozzy Osbourne's, passing.

The 39-year-old Jack recounted being in his Los Angeles residence when the devastating information reached him on July 22, fresh from a week-long visit with his father and other family members in the United Kingdom earlier that same month.

“I was roused from sleep in Los Angeles by a rapping sound at my front door, approximately at 3:45 AM. An individual who has been employed by my family for roughly three decades was on my doorstep. Upon peering through my window and recognizing him, I instantly understood that unfortunate news awaited,” Jack elaborated in a YouTube broadcast released on Wednesday, September 3.

He further added, “I received the news that my dad had died. … Instantly, I can’t quite express … simply anguish. Sorrow and agony. A deluge of thoughts. You experience this sensation of being sad, exasperated, and furious. … Yet, there was also a sentiment that, alright, he’s no longer in distress, he’s no longer fighting, and that provided some solace.”

“I wish he were still present. I wish he were still among us all, but he was enduring a difficult period, and I believe that was evident to attendees at the concert,” Jack remarked, alluding to Ozzy’s delicate condition during his last concert with Black Sabbath in Birmingham, England, only a few weeks prior to his demise.

Jack stated that neither he nor his relatives “anticipated it would occur with such speed,” noting that the prospect of Ozzy's passing was “not something we were considering.”

“He was incredibly pleased about performing that concert. And he was content to transition into the subsequent chapter of his existence,” Jack revealed. “He desired to dedicate more time to England. He wished to spend more moments with my children.”

Jack expressed gratitude for having had the opportunity to be with his father prior to his passing, as he and his family resided with Ozzy in the U.K. immediately following the Back to the Beginning performance in Birmingham. Jack is a father to three girls with his former spouse, Lisa Stelly: Pearl, age 13; Andy, age 10; and Minnie, age 7. In July 2022, he and his present wife, Aree Gearhart, greeted their daughter Maple, now 3 years old.

“I remained there, spent time with the family at their home, my children included — it truly was a wonderful week,” Jack stated.

Jack mentioned that he and his household were originally scheduled to travel to Portugal subsequent to the Black Sabbath performance, but “all my children became unwell.”

“They all contracted a gastrointestinal illness and it was quite unpleasant,” he detailed. “Consequently, we called off the journey and instead relaxed at our family residence in England for seven days. It was fantastic. The weather was bright. My father was in incredibly high spirits. He was genuinely cheerful daily. He would peruse the newspaper, discovering various critiques and narratives stemming from the Back to the Beginning performance. It was excellent. It brought much enjoyment.”

Jack further noted, “I reflect upon that period now with immense thankfulness. I have never felt such profound gratitude for my children contracting the stomach flu as I do presently.”

Ozzy’s demise was attributed to cardiac arrest, an acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson’s disease, as per a death certificate secured by the U.K.’s Sun newspaper in August.

Ozzy’s loved ones verified his passing at 76 years old through an announcement made to Us Weekly on July 22.

“It is with a sorrow deeper than any words can express that we must announce our cherished Ozzy Osbourne departed this morning,” they communicated. “He was in the company of his family and enveloped by affection. We request that everyone honor our family’s need for privacy at this moment.”
