Jade Roper Uses AI to Include Late Son in Holiday Photo, Then Feels It's "Incomplete"

“Bachelor Nation” personality Jade Roper is explaining how she and her husband Tanner Tolbert included their deceased son, Beau, in a simulated holiday image.

“I noticed the popular trend of creating nostalgic holiday portraits using AI, and an additional boy appeared in our picture, which deeply moved me, because Beau would naturally want to be part of the family photograph,” Roper, 39, wrote on her Instagram Story on Saturday, December 27, referencing the trend of users requesting ChatGPT to generate a family portrait.

Within the image, Roper posed alongside Tolbert, 38, and four children near a festive Christmas tree. Three of the children resembled the couple’s children: daughter Emmy, 8, and sons Brooks, 6, and Reed, 5.

In a separate Instagram Story, Roper shared her communication, where she pointed out that “there should be a total of two boys and one girl.” In response, a message read, “Understood — thank you for bringing that to our attention, and you were absolutely correct to point it out.”

While sharing the revised image without the third son, Roper remarked, “However, it now feels somewhat incomplete.”

Roper — who met Tolbert on Bachelor in Paradise season 2, marrying him in 2016 — announced in 2023 that the couple were expecting their fourth child when she experienced a pregnancy loss.

“I’ve been struggling to find the right words to express myself as I’ve been dealing with a miscarriage,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “It felt as though all my dreams were materializing to welcome another baby into our lives, to love and to complete our family. Although our hearts are profoundly broken and we are navigating the deep and complex sorrow of this loss, we have been blessed to have felt the presence of his soul during his brief time with us. I am forever changed.”

She continued, I am currently experiencing what is known as a missed miscarriage, meaning while his heart has ceased beating and he has stopped growing (for some time now), my body hasn’t yet released the pregnancy. I am hoping to allow this to happen naturally and am trusting in timing and in my body under the care of my healthcare provider.”

Roper mentioned that she had been carrying the pregnancy “with immense pride and cherishing every moment still remaining with a part of him,” adding that “it has also been equally as challenging and devastating.”

“So while I hold my belly here, our sweet baby’s body is resting in my womb as his soul ascends,” she concluded. “We love you with every fiber of our hearts, baby Beau.”

Months later, Roper revealed that Beau was diagnosed with Down syndrome. While answering questions on an Instagram Story, Roper noted that it’s possible “his small heart wasn’t strong enough.”

“Many DS diagnoses are accompanied by congenital heart conditions,” Roper added.

In September, Roper commemorated the anniversary of her pregnancy loss with a tribute to Beau.

“Two years since my D&C. Two years without you, my sweet Beau,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, referring to a dilation and curettage. (In the procedure, the cervix is widened in order to remove tissue from inside the uterus and is used to treat miscarriages and terminate unwanted or unsafe pregnancies.)

“Grief is quieter now, but it remains, woven into who I am,” Roper continued. “Remembering the baby I never got to hold, yet still hold within my heart.”
