Jana Kramer Offers Apology to Abuser's Daughter in Powerful Podcast Episode
Jana Kramer is prepared to advance her path to recovery following a history of abuse.
On the Wednesday, October 29, installment of iHeartRadio’s “Whine Down” podcast, Kramer, aged 41, extended an invitation to the daughter of the man she accused of abuse for a candid discussion about their shared histories.
“While I recognize this is my narrative, it is equally yours, and I genuinely wish to express my regret,” Kramer conveyed to a woman identified as Brittany Qualls. “It must be difficult to hear a stranger discuss a person who is your father, and therefore, I apologize if that has ever caused you any hardship.”
The former star of One Tree Hill added, “I cannot imagine what it’s like to have someone discuss another person who … you’ve never encountered me, you understand, and also someone you’ve never met either.”

While Kramer refrained from disclosing her abuser’s name during this specific episode, she has previously discussed the purported domestic violence she experienced in her initial marriage to Michael Gambino.
“In one instant, he could be gentle and universally adored,” Kramer recounted on her podcast. “My parents held him in high regard, which led me to believe I was irrational. … He possessed a sort of internal trigger that could transform him from pleasant to malevolent in mere seconds.”
Kramer tied the knot with Gambino in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2004, at the age of 19.
Gambino was found guilty a year later of attempted premeditated murder and spent five years incarcerated. Despite being granted parole, he passed away by suicide in 2012.
During her discussion with Kramer, Qualls stated unequivocally that any expression of regret from the “Why You Wanna” vocalist “is entirely unnecessary.”
“Ultimately, this individual was my father,” she stated. “Despite never having met him, and being aware of all his negative actions, I believe one inherently wishes for some positive qualities, though you understand they are absent. I suppose I always held onto the hope that someone might share something commendable. I have come to terms with that realization.”
Qualls recounted discovering her father’s conduct for the first time while browsing a copy of People magazine and encountering his police photograph.
“It’s certainly not something you ever imagined would become public knowledge,” Qualls remarked. “I recall my initial reaction being, ‘No, that isn’t my father,’ and subsequently, as I received more information from others, it began to burden me, prompting me to question the reasons.”
Through therapeutic assistance, Qualls expressed that she has managed to reconcile much challenging data and is now living a rich existence.
“I am convinced that I am distinct from him, and his deeds do not define me,” she proclaimed. “Ultimately, my identity is forged by my own choices, and his past actions bear no reflection on my character.”

Regarding Kramer — presently wed to Allan Russell — she expressed appreciation for the chance to engage with Qualls.
