Janice Combs Slams 50 Cent’s Diddy Documentary for Spreading Falsehoods

The mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Janice Combs, has broken her silence following the premiere of rapper 50 Cent’s explosive Netflix docuseries.

In a press release issued to Deadline on Saturday, December 6, Janice, 85, declared, “I am issuing this statement to rectify certain falsehoods contained within the Netflix program, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which premiered on December 2, 2025.” She added that “The misrepresentations concerning my son Sean’s early life and family background were deliberate actions intended to deceive audiences and inflict further damage on our good name.”

Janice, who attended almost every session of her son’s two-month legal proceeding earlier this year, accused Netflix of utilizing “sensationalism to market the series.” (Combs was apprehended in September 2024 on charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. He entered a plea of not guilty to all counts. He was convicted on two counts related to transportation for prostitution purposes, though he was acquitted of the sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Diddy is presently serving a 50-month prison sentence while continuing to assert his innocence.)

Janice disputed a specific claim made by Mr. Kirk Burrows, stating, “The assertions that my son struck me during a discussion following the tragic incident at City College on December 28, 1991, are incorrect and verifiably untrue.” She described the day as “a time of profound sorrow for everyone involved.”

Diddy’s Legal Woes Explored in Various Documentaries: Key Discoveries

Part of the documentary examined a fatal basketball game hosted by Diddy at City College, where nine individuals lost their lives and 30 others sustained injuries.

Janice went on to state, “It is unjust, shocking, and deeply offensive for him to exploit this tragedy and invent false stories in support of his past and ongoing efforts to seize something that never belonged to him, Bad Boy Records.”

Us Weekly contacted both Netflix and 50 Cent’s representatives to request statements.

The incident on December 28, 1991, involved nine deaths resulting from a crowd surge as individuals tried to force their way into a charity basketball game promoted by Diddy at City College in New York City. Multiple rappers were present at the event, and contemporary reports indicated that certain fans continued to press forward in pursuit of autographs from artists—even after it became clear that fatalities and injuries had occurred.

The four-episode series, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, became available for streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, December 2. Produced by 50 Cent, the series traces Diddy’s development in the music business and includes testimonies from childhood acquaintances, former colleagues, and ex-staff members who share their accounts of what they allegedly witnessed, endured, and believe about his personality.

In a previous statement to Tudum, 50 Cent commented, “My focus has long been on authentic narrative delivery via G-Unit Film and Television.” He added, “I appreciate everyone who stepped forward and entrusted us with their experiences, and I am honored to have Alexandria Stapleton direct this project to bring this significant narrative to the public.”

Before the documentary's release on December 1, Diddy and his legal counsel issued a cease and desist letter to Netflix, accompanied by a statement where the embattled hip-hop figure labeled the docuseries a “malicious attack.”

The statement continued, asserting that “Mr. Combs has gathered material since age 19 to present his life narrative on his own terms, as Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos are aware.” It also claimed, “It is fundamentally unjust and unlawful for Netflix to misuse this footage.”

Diddy further criticized the streaming service’s collaboration with 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, arguing that they granted “creative oversight” to a rapper whom Diddy and his legal team describe as “a long-standing enemy with a personal grudge who has repeatedly defamed Mr. Combs.”

A Look at the Enduring Relationship Between Diddy and His Mother Janice Smalls Combs Over Time

A spokesperson for Netflix released a statement to Us, addressing Diddy and his legal team’s accusations and labeling their characterizations of the docuseries as “incorrect.”

On Tuesday, December 2, a Netflix representative informed Us that “The project is unrelated to any previous discussions between Sean Combs and Netflix.” The spokesperson also asserted, “The footage of Combs leading up to his charges and apprehension was acquired lawfully. This is neither a malicious portrayal nor an act of vengeance. Curtis Jackson [50 Cent] serves as an executive producer but does not hold creative authority. No payment was provided to participants.”
