Usha's admiration for his dedication grew when they were tasked with collaborating on a legal brief.
Their law school instructor, Amy Chua, remarked to NBC News about JD, “I’ve never witnessed anyone so utterly captivated.” She added, “It was an instant connection.”
2014

2016
JD published his highly successful memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. This book chronicled his early life within the working-class Rust Belt region of the United States. It was subsequently adapted into a 2020 film helmed by Ron Howard.
Within the memoir, JD recounted the moment he “fell deeply” for Usha during their time at Yale. He characterized her as a “genetic anomaly” due to her abundance of desirable traits.
Furthermore, he confessed to having “broken every contemporary dating guideline” by declaring his love for her following their very first date.
2017
Vance and Usha celebrated the birth of their first child, a son named Ewan, in June 2017. Their family expanded with a second son, Vivek, in February 2020, followed by a daughter, Mirabel, in December 2021.

During the ongoing 2024 presidential campaign, Usha participated in her inaugural individual interview with Fox News.
In the conversation, the prospective second lady was questioned concerning her husband’s 2021 comment suggesting the United States was governed by “childless cat ladies.”
She responded, “In truth, JD … offered a jibe to underscore a meaningful point he wished to convey.” She elaborated, “His underlying message was about the significant challenges of parenthood in this nation, and how governmental policies can, at times, exacerbate these difficulties.”
January 2025
JD and Usha marked their relocation to the White House with a customary celebration.

November 2025
Usha ignited speculation of marital separation after she was observed without her wedding band during a November 2025 trip to Camp Lejeune. A representative for the Vances clarified that Usha is “a mother of three young children, who frequently washes dishes, gives many baths, and occasionally misplaces her ring.”
This event occurred mere weeks after Erika Kirk publicly embraced JD Vance at a speaking engagement, remarking on the Vice President's “resemblances” to her deceased spouse.
December 2025
The Vice President commented on reports of matrimonial disagreement during a December 2025 discussion with NBC News. He asserted that their bond is “as robust as it has ever been” and, regarding the gossip, stated, “We find it somewhat amusing.”
He further commented, “In every aspect of life, one must accept the positives with the negatives.” He continued, “You acknowledge that certain sacrifices are involved, alongside numerous benefits.
