Jelly Roll's Weight Loss Journey Sparks a Confidence Transformation
Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie Xo, is witnessing the profound impact his recent 200-pound weight loss has had on his inner self.
“He recently shaved his face for the first time in two decades,” Bunnie, 45, shared with Extra in an interview released on Wednesday, January 7. “The most remarkable aspect of my husband shaving was seeing him gaze at his reflection and observing him begin to appreciate himself.”
Bunnie further emphasized how Jelly Roll’s body image had previously influenced his daily outlook.
“Battling weight and facing constant criticism and simply carrying the burden of that weight daily significantly affects a person’s self-esteem,” Bunnie stated. “He’s receiving compliments like, ‘You look fantastic,’ or, ‘You look so healthy,’ or, ‘I’m incredibly proud of you.’ This has truly lifted his spirits.”

She continued, “Being able to see him look into that mirror and confidently say, ‘Yeah, I look good.’ It was truly wonderful to witness. I am so proud of him.”
Jelly Roll, 41, has been consistently losing weight since 2024 — and has now shed over 200 pounds.
“I just remember being advised by everyone about GLP-1s, or taking medications like Ozempic or Mounjaro, ‘Be aware, it might cause some initial stomach discomfort,’” the singer (real name Jason DeFord) revealed to Men’s Health in a profile published earlier this month. “I’ve treated my body so poorly for so long, I can’t believe God gave me this voice for this duration. I didn’t feel worthy of it. I didn’t pursue this out of fear.”
Jelly Roll ultimately decided against using a GLP-1 to slim down, instead focusing on transforming his diet and exercise routine while also incorporating the type 2 diabetes drug metformin. He also sought guidance from a licensed therapist to address his food addiction.
Jelly Roll's Wife Bunnie Xo Lightheartedly Jokes About His 200-Lb Weight Loss
“Even before I started getting my blood work done, I sought mental health therapy to address my overeating,” he explained to the outlet. “I began treating my food addiction as it truly was: an addiction. Why did I approach cocaine differently? I attended meetings for cocaine, found a sponsor, detoxed, experienced significant emotional challenges, and made substantial life changes to overcome it. I didn’t view my food addiction any differently. Once I started treating food like an addiction, it began to change everything for me.”
Jelly Roll now feels better than ever.
“I feel like I’m a teenager, man,” he joked to Men’s Health. “My sex drive is that of a 17-year-old again. I’m eagerly pursuing my wife. We’re having daytime intimacy again. It’s incredible. [Before the weight loss] my testosterone level — and I’m comfortable discussing this openly — was that of a preteen boy.”
Jelly Roll and Bunnie have been married since 2016, a time when they faced difficulties in their intimate relationship.
“My intimate life with my wife was quite challenging,” he recalled on a December 2023 episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast. “I married a gorgeous, blonde, beautiful woman with a full figure, you know what I mean? I married the kind of woman that brings a smile to your face even when you’re sad. I simply couldn’t become aroused, I was so large.”
