Jennifer Lawrence Recalls Donald Trump's Tweet Storm Over Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Split

Many people born between the early 1980s and mid-1990s vividly remember, whether they like it or not, when then-future president Donald Trump commented on the public split between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart — and this memory includes Jennifer Lawrence.

“Seriously, if you imagine I wouldn't question him regarding Donald Trump's posts about his split from Kristen, then clearly you're mistaken,” Lawrence, age 35, joked during the October 23 Thursday broadcast of The Graham Norton Show, while discussing her connection with her Die My Love colleague Pattinson, age 39.

Following co-guest Jeremy Allen White's admission that he “has no recollection of it whatsoever,” Lawrence provided additional details.

“This happened, perhaps, three days after pictures emerged of her with, well, you know. Youthful individuals err,” Lawrence explained. “Then Donald Trump declared, ‘He needs to dump her. He deserves someone superior to her,’ launching into an extensive tirade.”

Pattinson and Stewart, currently 35, were a couple between 2019 and 2013, having first met as romantic leads in the Twilight film series. In July 2012, Us Weekly revealed exclusively that Stewart was observed showing significant public affection with director Rupert Sanders, igniting rumors of an affair and a subsequent separation. These whispers of their split ultimately came to the attention of Trump, then a reality television personality and now 79.

“[Kristen] betrayed him completely and is bound to repeat it — just observe. He is capable of finding a far superior partner,” Trump posted on X back then.

Stewart has since openly discussed Trump’s clear animosity regarding her romantic separation.

“Naturally, he felt compelled to comment on my public shaming. It feels like, ‘What impact is this twenty-year-old, completely new to life, having on this individual?’” Stewart recounted to Rolling Stone in a 2024 feature. “He's truly infantile.”

Following her relationships with Pattinson and Sanders, Stewart publicly declared herself gay during her 2017 guest spot on Saturday Night Live.

“I'm slightly apprehensive about hosting because I'm aware the president is likely tuned in, and, well, I doubt he's much of a fan of mine,” she stated in her introductory monologue then, alluding to Trump. “My proof is this: four years prior, I was romantically involved with a person named Robert, and we ended things and then reconciled, and for reasons unknown, it completely unhinged Donald Trump.”

She proceeded, “The president isn't particularly fond of me, and that's perfectly fine, because, Donald, if I wasn't to your liking back then, you'll almost certainly dislike me even more now, considering I'm hosting SNL and I'm, you know, incredibly gay, man.”

Stewart tied the knot with Dylan Meyer a few months ago, while Pattinson has since found a new partner in vocalist Suki Waterhouse. Pattinson and Waterhouse, who is 33, became parents to a daughter earlier in 2024.

Beyond his domestic life with Waterhouse, Pattinson recently collaborated with Lawrence on the film Die My Love.

“My female friends were visiting. We were dressed in our sleepwear. We were enjoying Little Women [and] since Rob is essentially part of our group, he's keen on gossiping,” Lawrence shared on Thursday, explaining her rapport with Pattinson during filming breaks. “He truly belongs with the girls. So I invited him, ‘Join us.’ He also reminds me of my child. He's an excellent parent, highly competent, punctual, yet I'd be skeptical if he, for instance, remembered to wear a coat. He evokes a strongly maternal instinct within me.”
