Jennifer Lawrence Reveals Her Strategy for Filming Intimate Scenes
Jennifer Lawrence has shared her thoughts on how she approaches filming intimate moments.
Lawrence, 35, discussed the anxiety she experiences before starting new movies during a conversation with Josh Horowitz about her film Die My Love at 92NY on Wednesday, January 7, according to People. Consequently, the actress prefers to complete these scenes early, particularly when she and her co-star are unfamiliar with each other.
Lawrence noted that she and her Die My Love co-star Robert Pattinson filmed a “raw and vulnerable” scene during their first day of shooting.
“It actually proved simpler that way because Rob and I didn’t know each other well, which is somewhat beneficial, you know?” she explained.

Lawrence drew a comparison to scenes in her Hunger Games film with Josh Hutcherson. (The pair developed a strong connection while collaborating on the film series.)
“Like in Hunger Games, for example, when I had to share a kiss with Josh Hutcherson, that’s… Imagine that,” she revealed. “It’s considerably more awkward, and so yes, doing it with someone you don’t know is preferable.”
Lawrence described the “raw” scenes in Die My Love, which featured the No Hard Feelings star and Pattinson, 39, engaging in a physical confrontation like wild animals, as “uncomfortable.” She and her co-star participated in “movement lessons” to help them feel more at ease.
“We arrived in Calgary about three weeks before filming began. Rob and I are both easily embarrassed, and that was mortifying. I mean, I’m not… a dancer, and Rob’s dancing is famously poor,” she joked. “And, and it involved instructions like, ‘Now move like a tree’ – it was incredibly awkward. So I believe by the time they suggested, ‘Yes, disrobe,’ we were simply thinking, ‘At least it’s not more movement exercises.’”
Die My Love, which premiered in theaters in November 2025, stars Lawrence as Grace, a young mother and writer who is “gradually descending into madness.” Her increasingly erratic behavior begins to worry her companion, Jackson (Pattinson).
Lawrence disclosed prior to the film’s release that she declined the services of an intimacy coordinator for her intimate scenes with Pattinson because he is “respectful.”
“We didn’t have [an intimacy coordinator], or perhaps we did, but it wasn’t really necessary,” the Silver Linings Playbook star said on the “Las Culturistas” podcast at the time. I felt completely secure with Rob. He is considerate and deeply devoted to [his partner] Suki Waterhouse.”
Lawrence added that she and Pattinson spent considerable time “discussing our families and relationships.” (Lawrence shares son Cy, 3, and a second son born in 2025 with husband Cooke Maroney. Meanwhile, Pattinson shares a 15-month-old daughter with fiancée Waterhouse, 34.)
Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson Discuss the ‘Challenging’ Intimate Scenes
“There was never any unsettling feeling, like, ‘Does he have ulterior motives?’” she continued. “If that were the case, I would have wanted an intimacy coordinator. Many male actors become resentful if you decline their advances, and then the repercussions begin. He wasn’t like that.”
Lawrence also mentioned in a Q&A with Vulture that being pregnant while filming Die My Love aided her in overcoming insecurities about appearing nude on screen.
“I don’t have reservations about nudity. I’m not self-conscious about it,” she stated. “I think being pregnant eliminated a lot of my vanity concerns. Before [filming her 2023 comedy] No Hard Feelings, I was restricting my diet and avoiding carbohydrates and exercising. I was pregnant [for Die My Love]. What was I supposed to do? Not eat? I was working long hours. I was simply exhausted.”
