Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson Remain Separated Despite Vegas Family Trip
Despite a recent get-together in Las Vegas, Jessica Simpson and her separated husband, Eric Johnson, remain committed to their split, an insider reveals exclusively to Us Weekly.
“There’s no chance of them reuniting or patching things up,” the insider states.
Eyebrows were raised when Simpson and Johnson, both 45 years old, were seen traveling to Vegas together on a Southwest Airlines plane on Friday, August 29. That same evening, they were present for the debut performance of her sister Ashlee Simpson’s concert series at Voltaire at The Venetian Resort.
“This was a family occasion, and Eric was there to show his encouragement,” the insider clarifies. “He wished to stand by Ashlee.”
The Relationship Journey of Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson
Ashlee’s concert series commemorates the approaching 20-year milestone of her 2005 record, I Am Me. She successfully sold out two performances during Labor Day weekend, with an additional five dates planned for the current month. With the exception of a short act in West Hollywood last year, this represents the first solo stage appearance for the “Pieces of Me” vocalist, 40, since 2008.
Jessica, too, is experiencing a return to music, having launched an EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1, back in March, with Part 2 set to premiere this Friday, September 5, after a 15-year absence from the music scene.
Although Jessica created and recorded these musical works around the period of her separation from Johnson (with track names such as “Leave” and “Hopeless Romance”), the insider informs Us that the ex-couple’s relationship has improved recently.
“Jessica and Eric have maintained a very cordial relationship lately, fostering peace for the benefit of their children,” the insider states, referring to their daughters, Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, 6, along with their son, Ace, 12.
Us Weekly has contacted Jessica’s publicist for a statement.
A Visual Journey: Jessica Simpson Over the Years
Following months of speculation, Jessica confirmed in January that she and Johnson were “residing apart” stemming from an unspecified “difficult circumstance” within their decade-long marriage.
“Our kids are our top priority, and we are concentrating on their well-being,” she further stated in a message to Us. “We are thankful for the outpouring of affection and encouragement we’ve received and request privacy at this time as we navigate this as a unit.”
Several weeks after that, Ashlee exclusively informed Us that her sibling was in “exceptionally high spirits,” adding, “We are resilient women, and, you know, I believe it’s a wonderful aspect of existence to continuously evolve and discover oneself, wherever that path may lead.”
Jessica and Johnson have not yet formally initiated divorce proceedings; instead, a confidant of the fashion designer shared with Us in May that their current focus is on “adapting to their new reality.”
“They maintain a good rapport, and everyone appears quite content,” the insider further revealed. “They communicate and meet regularly and have committed to getting along for the sake of their children, regardless of future developments.”
