Jessica Simpson Finds Strength in Sobriety and New Music Amidst Divorce
Jessica Simpson is recognizing her achievements while navigating her current separation from her soon-to-be ex-husband, Eric Johnson.
“Eight years ago today, I decided to face, acknowledge, and release the destructive behaviors I had been engaging in,” the artist shared on Instagram on Saturday, November 1. “Embracing that choice enabled me to wholeheartedly pursue divine[sic] intention for my existence. Alcohol muffled my inner voice, hindered my aspirations, and amplified my lingering anxieties about stagnation.”
Alongside a cheerful self-portrait, her caption further stated, “Currently, my mind is lucid. Today, I am propelled by belief. Both apprehension and conviction are emotions we experience but might not perceive visually; I am immensely glad I opted for conviction over apprehension. My fortitude was discovered not through struggle, but through yielding.”
The vocalist has openly discussed her past struggles with substance abuse and her path to sobriety, having previously clarified that she used alcohol as a mental and emotional crutch to deal with former traumatic experiences.

In a January 2020 conversation on Today, Simpson recalled an October 2017 incident where she felt she didn't adequately parent her children — Maxwell, Ace, and Birdie — on Halloween, stating, “Honestly, I couldn't even recall who prepared them. I was simply disoriented and bewildered, and all I desired was sleep,” which prompted her realization that sobriety was necessary.
She further recounted, “I didn't accompany them trick-or-treating. I wasn't present for my household. I captured the photo and led everyone to believe I had been there.”
Simpson is a mother of three, shared with her separated spouse, Johnson. The couple declared their marital dissolution in January 2025, concluding a decade-long union.
In a January 13 statement to Us Weekly, Simpson revealed, “Eric and I have been residing apart, managing a difficult circumstance within our marriage.” She added, “Our kids are our top priority, and we are concentrating on their well-being. We are thankful for all the affection and encouragement we've received, and we request discretion as we process this as a unit.”
During her separation, Simpson recommenced her music career after a 15-year pause, unveiling a pair of fresh tracks — “Breadcrumbs” and “Leave” — at the 2025 South By Southwest festival in Texas.

The artist additionally launched two extended plays, marking her initial releases since 2020, and has been on tour throughout 2025.
Concurrently dedicating herself to her music career, Simpson has recently shared insights into what she seeks in a future romantic companion.
“I believe I'm currently drawn to younger gentlemen,’ the singer disclosed to Extra in an interview released on October 17. “When you're recently uncoupled... I'm finding that younger men tend to appreciate the self-assurance of a more mature woman.”
