Jinger Duggar Shares Encouraging Update on Erin Bates' Recovery from Septic Shock

Jinger Duggar has shared new details regarding her friend Erin Bates’ progress following a recent hospitalization for septic shock.

“I believe Erin appears to be making some improvements,” Duggar, 31, informed her husband Jeremy Vuolo during the September 17 Wednesday broadcast of their joint podcast. “I anticipate it will be a lengthy journey, but observing their social media updates, any small sign of optimism is heartening.”

She added, “I feel they are clinging to hope as she embarks on her healing process, which is truly a miracle and very uplifting to witness.”

Bates, 34, was admitted to the hospital last month following the birth of her seventh child, son Henry. Her husband, Chad Paine, disclosed via an Instagram update then that she contracted sepsis after a urinary tract infection and kidney infection, and was in a semi-conscious state. (The Cleveland Clinic states that sepsis is a severe infection capable of leading to organ failure, tissue damage, or even fatality.)

Following several weeks in the hospital’s intensive care unit, the former Bringing Up Bates star has since been released.

“After nearly three weeks hospitalized, I have never felt more grateful to finally return home to our children,” stated a September 13 Saturday update on Bates and Paine’s shared Instagram profile. “We still lack complete clarity, and I continue to experience a lack of function in my right leg, but we are opting to appreciate every blessing — particularly the joy of reuniting. Your prayers have supported us immensely and are deeply valued by our family.”

Bates and Paine, 38, additionally posted several pictures depicting their older children assisting with baby Henry at home.

“Among their most recent uploads was one featuring several of the siblings present, assisting with holding the baby and spending time with him,” Duggar commented during Wednesday’s broadcast. “Their entire family is providing support and assistance during this period. What resonated with me most was a letter penned by their daughter [Brooklyn] to Erin while she was hospitalized.”

Paine previously uploaded video earlier this month showing him reading Bates the handwritten message from their 9-year-old.

“When you invest in your children or impart wisdom, you instruct them in divine scripture, and subsequently, the truth they must adhere to during challenging moments becomes evident,” Duggar stated. “She is quite young, and that understanding, derived from ‘In affliction, both joyous and difficult, God orchestrates all circumstances for the benefit of those who love Him and are chosen according to His plan,’ originates from Romans 8:28. … When it impacts us and causes distress during such periods of profound anguish and grief, that is when our faith is truly tested, and we must rely on God.”
