Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have navigated numerous experiences over their 12-year marriage — yet the musician asserts that the secret to their enduring partnership is straightforward.
“Simply stand by one another and cherish each other. Be each other's unwavering support,” the 46-year-old Legend shared in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly at the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) Gala in Los Angeles on Thursday, September 18. “We’ve shared every aspect of life together — immense happiness, alongside sorrow, hurdles, and loss.”
He added: “I believe that the knowledge of having one another's unwavering support and being there for each other through every circumstance is — truly, when that forms your base, it's paramount.”
Their romantic journey began after Legend and Teigen, 39, first encountered each other during the filming of his “Stereo” music video in 2006. Their wedding took place in September 2013, and among the blissful highlights of their union have been receiving honorary doctorates, securing various awards, attending Met Galas, releasing books, and welcoming four children. (Their family includes Luna, 9, Miles, 7, and toddlers Esti and Wren, both 2).

This year, Legend’s marital anniversary is not his sole milestone celebration. The artist is currently undertaking a tour commemorating the 20th anniversary of his inaugural album, Get Lifted.
“I am incredibly enthusiastic,” he informed Us regarding the tour. “We’ve already performed several concerts across the U.S., but many more are scheduled for October, November, and December. And it’s a grand commemoration! It marks two decades of my professional journey, two decades since my first album was released.”

Legend hinted that during each performance, he and his band will play the complete album, interspersing it with “select hits” from his career spanning over the years.
“It serves as an acknowledgment of my thankfulness and the bond I’ve cultivated with my admirers throughout the years,” he stated. “We’re sure to enjoy ourselves immensely on this tour.”
Earning the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the BMAC Gala represented another significant career achievement for the EGOT recipient.
“This is an immense privilege,” Legend conveyed to Us. “Quincy Jones was both a friend and a guide to me, and even before our acquaintance, he was someone I admired as a remarkable musician, producer, collaborator, and innovator. He also made a profound difference as a philanthropist, utilizing his influence to improve the world and unite people in pursuit of a better society. Therefore, receiving an award bearing his name is a tremendous honor for me.”
