John Stamos Clarifies Friendship with Lori Loughlin Amid Marriage Questions
John Stamos is making clear the nature of his affection for his enduring companion, Lori Loughlin.
“Many people assumed, ‘You two had a romance,’” the 62-year-old Stamos recounted during the October 20 Monday installment of the “Good Guys” podcast. “I once mentioned in an interview that she was ‘the one that got away,’ and I believe this was prior to meeting my wife, Caitlin [McHugh]; it was a curious comment at the time.”
During the broadcast, podcast presenter Ben Soffer shared that he had solicited questions for Stamos from his audience before recording.
“The most frequent inquiry was, ‘Really, Aunt Becky. Get her involved. Include her in the conversation,’” Soffer disclosed.

Stamos responded, “A ménage à trois? Absolutely not.”
Soffer subsequently explained, “That wasn't their question. They inquired, ‘Would you depart your spouse for her?’ We are not discussing that.”
Stamos, nevertheless, affirmed his disinterest in either ending or making his marriage non-monogamous. “Absolutely no way,” he articulated. “I am not part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
As chronicled in his 2023 autobiography If You Would Have Told Me, Stamos mentioned that “there was a brief period when both of us were unattached simultaneously.”
Eventually, Loughlin, 61, wed Mossimo Giannulli in 1997 prior to their separation in October following almost 28 years of matrimony. Regarding Stamos, he tied the knot with McHugh in February 2018.
John Stamos and Lori Loughlin's Best Quotes About Their Relationship
“I don't intend to diminish or simplify it to Grease, but Lori was akin to Sandy, you know before the leather outfits and all that, preceding that musical number,” Stamos clarified to podcast presenters Josh Peck and Soffer. “Rebecca Romijn embodied Sandy in her leather and the, ‘Tell me about it, stud’ phase. There was a point where I felt I had a decision to make. And I was more drawn to, well, the rebellious type. Lori was kind, and I enjoyed collaborating with her, but she was overly pleasant for my taste.”
Stamos and Romijn exchanged vows in September 1998. The performer subsequently initiated divorce proceedings in August 2004. Romijn later married Jerry O’Connell.
In characterizing Loughlin, Stamos referred to her as a “saint” and “America's sweetheart.” Regarding their connection, he stated unequivocally that it “remained strictly platonic.”
“I consistently believed we had kissed on an attraction at Disneyland,” Stamos quipped. “I recall her saying it never occurred, so I'm uncertain if it was a creation of my imagination, some form of daydream.”
While Loughlin deals with a publicized relationship ending, Stamos is extending comfort to his long-standing Fuller House colleague and companion.
“Lori resides near me,” he clarified. “I spent a good deal of time at her place, and she visited our home on a few occasions. Caitlin has handled it well. It's challenging.”
Although Loughlin has not openly discussed her separation from Giannulli, 62, her representative verified to Us on October 2 that the couple — parents to daughters Isabella Rose, 27, and Olivia Jade, 26 — are no longer together.
Following the breakup, Stamos explicitly stated his allegiance to Loughlin.

“Unexpectedly, they've broken up, and I am aware she is utterly heartbroken,” Stamos expressed. “For a woman who, as you know, has conducted her life admirably, is an upright individual, a devoted mother, a loyal spouse. I attest to all of this. To suddenly be thrust into, now, this separation, shattering her family in such a manner. And I simply find it painful to witness her enduring this.”
Stamos indicated he was “pleading the fifth” when questioned about speculations that Giannulli had been unfaithful to Loughlin, yet he disclosed, “Whatever action he took against her, it profoundly shattered her.”
TMZ conveyed that Giannulli offered no remarks concerning Stamos’ assertions made on the podcast. Us additionally sought a statement from Giannulli’s legal representative.
