JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes playfully debate a future proposal with a seven-year timeline

JoJo Siwa and boyfriend Chris Hughes are contemplating a further commitment in their romance.

“It’s common to see proposals around Christmas or on Christmas morning, I notice on Instagram every year – someone is always getting engaged,” Hughes, 32, revealed to The Sun on Sunday, December 21. “I actually prefer the idea of it happening at an unexpected time.”

Siwa seemed to consider Hughes’ statement for a moment before offering a nod of agreement.

“Okay,” Siwa, 22, responded. “You like to keep me guessing, don’t you?”

Siwa then mentioned she had entertained the thought of gifting Hughes a ring and proposing to him herself, an idea he rejected.

“I’ve discussed this with others before you, naturally. And I confessed that being proposed to would make me feel uneasy,” Hughes clarified.

Siwa countered that she would only consider proposing if he waited a full seven years to propose to her, a timeframe Hughes deemed “reasonable.”

“I don’t believe it should take seven years to determine if you want to marry someone, do you understand?” Hughes stated. “Therefore, you can use that as a guideline, and it will likely never occur.”

Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa ‘Seriously’ Discuss Marriage and Future Family Plans

“Just for the record, on May 27, 2032, I will be proposing,” Siwa declared, sharing a laugh with Hughes. “I won’t wait a single day longer.”

Siwa and Hughes first connected while competing on the U.K.’s Celebrity Big Brother in April. Following speculation about their relationship, Siwa confirmed their dating status in June. The following month, Hughes exclusively told Us Weekly that he and Siwa had already begun discussing their future together.

“We truly talk to each other about these things,” Hughes said at the time. “When you are completely infatuated with someone and deeply in love, I think it’s natural to look ahead to those possibilities.”

He continued, “Of course, I want to get married. I would never hide that. I aspire to marry and eventually have children. We both come from very supportive and loving families who prioritize family values… So it would be wonderful to build that for ourselves in the future.”

Siwa, meanwhile, enthusiastically described her connection with Hughes in a May digital cover story for Us.

“What makes Chris and me so special is that our connection is so authentic that we don’t concern ourselves with others’ opinions,” Siwa shared with Us at the time. “Because we value our genuine friendship and understand our bond. It’s a wonderful and unique friendship that we share. And I constantly send him videos of us dancing.”
