Jonathan Van Ness Shows Off Abs and Addresses Weight Loss Journey

Jonathan Van Ness is proudly displaying his physique after openly discussing his GLP-1 assisted weight loss.

“Apologies if I’m prioritizing abs before Antoni & my mom,” the Queer Eye star, 38, shared via Instagram on Sunday, December 28, alongside a series of photos.

The initial image showed the hair stylist shirtless at the gym, posing for the camera while making a peace sign and showcasing his defined abdominal muscles. The subsequent images featured a photo of Van Ness with his Queer Eye colleague, Antoni Porowski, and a photo of the star with his mother.

Van Ness has been transparent about his weight loss journey, which has involved shedding nearly 70 pounds with the support of GLP-1 medications. In October, he clarified his decision to utilize the medication following criticism from fans suggesting he was no longer “body positive.”

“What do you mean? I’m all about body neutrality,” Van Ness responded in a TikTok video at the time. “Your worth and lovableness are not determined by your appearance. You deserve love and celebration, regardless of what your body looks like.”

Van Ness went on to describe a “health concern” he experienced in 2023, explaining that he chose to use GLP-1 medications — in addition to a fitness routine that included pilates — because he “simply didn’t feel well.”

“My body has never looked like this in my entire life — I’ve always desired to have an ab,” he said in the video. “I’ve never had visible abs. And I feel really good, so I’m taking my shirt off frequently.”

He continued, “I’ve always been quite charming, and I’ve always felt charming. But I just didn’t feel good, and now I feel good.”

Months earlier, in January, Van Ness again discussed using GLP-1 medications, a category of weight loss drugs like Ozempic that are typically used to treat diabetes, to assist him in managing a binge eating disorder.

“Alright, I have a confession to make. Yes, I am taking a GLP-1 or a weight-loss medication,” Van Ness wrote via Instagram at the time. “If you’ve been following me for some time, you’ll know that I’ve gained and lost weight publicly on several occasions. And this time in my life, I realized that I needed a bit of extra support.”

He continued, “I was consistently making choices that I regretted through compulsive eating and bingeing, which left me feeling really unwell, depressed, and out of control. For the first time in my life, I have control over my food intake. It has helped me immensely, and that’s part of why I want to be honest with you about it because I know how important seeking help is, and how much asking for help can transform your life in terms of healing. This time, I needed assistance.”
