Josh Brolin Reflects on Past Trump Acquaintance and Political Ambitions
Josh Brolin is discussing his previous connection with the sitting U.S. President, Donald Trump.
“I don’t fear Trump, as despite his assertions of perpetual tenure, that simply won’t materialize,” the acclaimed actor from The Goonies revealed to The Independent in a piece released on Saturday, November 29, addressing the president’s remarks about potentially pursuing an unconstitutional third term.
“Should that indeed occur, I will confront that situation when it arises,” Brolin added regarding Trump’s assertions. “However, having been acquainted with Trump before his presidency, I am familiar with a distinct individual.”
Brolin encountered the current president well before his aspirations for the White House materialized. The performer initially interacted with the then-construction magnate and businessman following his role in Oliver Stone’s 2010 movie Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
“His marketing acumen is unparalleled — he identifies and capitalizes on the vulnerabilities within the broader populace,” Brolin commented on Trump. “Consequently, I believe many perceive him as a representative figure. I feel it reflects more on the public’s desire for affirmation than on Trump himself.”

Even though a third term is forbidden by the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Trump has frequently stated he is mulling or evaluating another presidential campaign. Previously this year, the president informed NBC news that “numerous individuals desire” him to seek a third term. That October, he expressed he would “adore” to initiate another presidential contest, though he subsequently elucidated that it’s “quite evident” he is “prohibited from running.”
“It has been a remarkable period,” the current Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, informed journalists when queried about his stance on the president pursuing an unconstitutional third term. “However, I believe the president is aware, and we have discussed, the limitations imposed by the Constitution, despite how many Americans express regret over it.”
The president has even displayed “Trump 2028” headwear within the White House, notably in the Oval Office.
Notwithstanding his public criticism of the current president, Brolin maintains that his role in the upcoming Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery — a magnetic yet morally compromised clergyman, Monsignor Wicks, who cultivates a devoted following through his divisive speech — is not drawn from Trump.

“I could invent a narrative and claim it stemmed from a sort of Trump-esque avarice,” Brolin conceded to the publication, prior to asserting his character is not derived from the president, though admitting that “Wicks acquires authority, then all limits vanish.”
“It’s brilliant,” Brolin further commented on the movie. “It led me to several unexpected avenues, which I truly appreciate. It’s an intricate maze.”
Naturally, Brolin is hardly the initial public figure to have maintained — and frequently continued to maintain — a relationship with the current president. As a past reality television personality and beauty pageant proprietor, Trump mingled with numerous prominent actors and celebrities from Hollywood before reaching the nation’s highest political position, such as Oprah, Anna Wintour, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Martha Stewart.
