Julia Fox Declines RHONY Role, Fears Ruining Beloved Show

After much speculation, Julia Fox has finally shed light on persistent whispers regarding a potential role in the upcoming season of Real Housewives of New York City.

“To be frank, the thought did cross my mind. However, my affection for the series is so profound that I fear my participation would inevitably tarnish the experience for me,” Fox revealed exclusively to Us Weekly this October, while attending the New York City Ballet’s 2025 Fall Fashion Gala held at Lincoln Center’s prestigious David H. Koch Theater.

“The joy I derive from watching would simply vanish. It's a situation where despite the allure, I am compelled to safeguard the very things I cherish and that bring vitality into my world,” the 35-year-old style icon elaborated.

She further explained her desire for the cast members to exist in a realm apart from her own reality, suggesting that even the inclusion of a close acquaintance would make the viewing experience uncomfortably personal.

“Candidly, my ideal Housewives are those who embody delusion, detachment from everyday life, and a complete lack of relatability,” Fox confided to Us. “While some might perceive me as fitting that description, I assure you, I do not. I simply question if I possess the inherent qualities of a Housewife. It’s an extraordinarily demanding role. These personalities are truly unparalleled. Understand what I mean? The Housewives who defined my formative years hold a significance in my life akin to my own maternal figure.”

The inaugural iteration of Real Housewives of New York City, which featured prominent figures like Bethenny Frankel, Luann de Lesseps, Alex McCord, Ramona Singer, and Jill Zarin, debuted in 2008 and aired for thirteen successful seasons, concluding in 2021. In March 2022, a reboot of the franchise was confirmed for its fourteenth season, introducing an entirely fresh ensemble comprising Sai de Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank, and Brynn Whitfield. Racquel Chevremont later joined for the fifteenth season, though the definitive lineup for the show’s sixteenth installment remains unconfirmed.

Fox conveyed to Us her conviction that the reboot's perceived lack of triumph stems from its “overly relatable” dynamic.

“My desire is to witness women engaging in disputes over issues I could never fathom, owing to my likely never possessing such luxuries, encountering similar predicaments, or experiencing these unique ‘rich people problems.’ That is my expectation for my Housewives, and I harbor doubts about my ability to fulfill that expectation,” she articulated. “Moreover, I am committed to not disappointing the discerning Bravoverse. Their standards are exceptionally high. I wish to avoid letting them down. I certainly don't want to compromise something profoundly enjoyable, life-affirming, and personally gratifying.”

The esteemed actress suggested that any potential foray into reality television on her part would lean heavily towards a more documentary-style format.

“Frankly, I receive numerous invitations to participate in such productions. I am undeniably a strong contender for a project of that nature,” Fox informed Us. “However, there’s a hesitation. I meticulously guard my personal privacy, despite outward appearances. I question if I’m truly prepared for that level of exposure at this moment.”
