Kardashian and Jenner Sue Ray J Over Defamatory Claims

A legal battle is unfolding as Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have initiated court proceedings against Ray J.

As per legal filings acquired by Us Weekly, Alex Spiro, counsel for Kardashian, formally lodged a defamation complaint in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 1, targeting Ray J (whose birth name is William Ray Norwood Jr.). Both Kardashian, aged 44, and Jenner, aged 69, asserted within these documents that Ray J’s statements concerning their family have inflicted “significant and continuous damage to both their personal standing and professional image.”

Furthermore, the legal papers contended that Ray J, who once had a romantic involvement with Kardashian, “cannot come to terms with the conclusion of his brief romance with Ms. Kardashian more than two decades prior.” Kardashian and Jenner further alleged that Ray J, also 44, has persistently capitalized on their well-known past connection throughout the years.

Both Kardashian and Jenner are pursuing financial restitution in the form of both compensatory and punitive damages. The initial report of this development came from TMZ.

This legal action follows less than seven days after Ray J's remarks gained widespread attention during a September live broadcast on X. The artist asserted that Kardashian and Jenner were implicated in a federal inquiry into criminal racketeering.

“The federal RICO charges I intend to reveal against Kris and Kim are going to be explosive,” Ray J stated in the footage. “I mean, I'll be in the news daily. I'm going to disclose a great deal. Anyone associated with Kim should inform her immediately that federal authorities are closing in. There’s nothing I can do to stop it.”

Ray J further asserted that the purported legal difficulties facing Kardashian and Jenner would be more “severe” than the recent legal challenges encountered by Sean “Diddy” Combs.

“Neither Kris Jenner nor Kim Kardashian has previously initiated a defamation claim, nor have they allowed themselves to be sidetracked by public gossip – however, this baseless and grave accusation compelled them to act,” Spiro commented in a declaration to Us.

Us has contacted Ray J, Kardashian, and Jenner seeking their response.

This instance is not the initial occasion where Ray J has suggested Kardashian's alleged participation in racketeering. In May, Ray J featured in a Tubi documentary concerning Diddy’s situation and discussed Kardashian and her relatives. (Ray J had earlier supported Diddy during his legal issues.)

“Should someone inform me that the Kardashians faced racketeering charges, I would potentially find it credible,” he asserted.

Ray J shares a significant past with the Kardashian family. The musician and the Skims brand creator began their relationship in 2003, subsequently ending it three years later.

“There was affection between us. In every relationship I've had, I cared for the woman. It was simply that the ethical principles and beliefs were misaligned. I was experiencing love while being untruthful,” Ray J recounted concerning his time with Kardashian during a 2017 installment of Celebrity Big Brother U.K.

Subsequent to their separation, Ray J and Kardashian garnered significant attention following the 2007 release of their notorious private video, which coincided with the debut of Kardashian’s reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Over ten years following the controversy surrounding the private video, speculation arose about additional, unreleased footage featuring Kardashian and Ray J. Kardashian asserted that her then-husband, now separated, Kanye West, handed over the complete recording to her after an encounter with Ray J.

“Kanye returned home last night and was back this morning. I'd like to demonstrate what he obtained for me. He recovered the entirety of the private video for me,” she explained during a 2022 installment of The Kardashians. “He journeyed home, secured the computer containing it and the hard drive. He met with Ray J at the airport and retrieved everything for me.”

Ray J later refuted the assertions made by Kardashian.

“For more than 14 years, I've remained in the background, permitting the Kardashians to leverage my identity, to misuse my name, and to generate billions of dollars over a decade and a half by discussing a subject I have largely remained silent on,” he told the Daily Mail in May 2022. “I have never, at any point in my life, released a private video. It was never a leak.”
