Kate Cassidy Marks One Year Since Liam Payne's Passing With Heartfelt Tribute
Kate Cassidy honored the memory of her deceased partner, Liam Payne, as the first year since his passing concluded.
“A complete year has passed since you've been gone,” the 26-year-old Cassidy posted on Instagram on Thursday, October 16. “I will always despise farewells. I yearn for you, Liam.”
Her tribute featured a vintage monochrome photograph of herself and Payne cuddling intimately in bed.
Payne's demise occurred in October 2024, following a fall from a third-story balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. He was 31 years of age. Payne's surviving loved ones include Cassidy, his mother and father, his siblings Nicola and Ruth, and his son, Bear, whose mother is his former partner Cheryl Cole.

Prior to his fatal accident, Cassidy had been enjoying a holiday in Argentina alongside Payne. The social media personality traveled back to the U.S. just days before his death. Several months after the unfortunate incident, Cassidy revealed her remorse about departing the nation without Payne.
“Affection is inherently hopeful, and you simply wish for a positive outcome. Clearly, had I possessed foresight, I would never have departed Argentina,” Cassidy stated during a February interview with The Sun. “I simply never envisioned this unfolding, never expected it to conclude in such a manner. It still doesn't quite feel tangible to me that he's no longer present.”
During November 2024, Payne's funeral took place in Amersham, England. Cassidy was present at the ceremony, accompanying Payne's relatives and close friends. Payne's former colleagues from One Direction, including Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, also attended the memorial proceedings.
Cassidy has openly discussed her difficulties in coping with her sorrow following Payne's demise. During an appearance on the U.K. morning program Lorraine in March, Cassidy admitted that coming to terms with the singer's absence has been challenging for her.
“I frequently speak of him as if he's still here. I don't even perceive a need to adjust my language,” she pondered. “That is integral to my process of recovery. I'm still striving to acknowledge that he is no longer with us. It's difficult for me to describe him in the past tense. It feels even more painful because it makes it more definite. It's exceedingly hard to acknowledge.”
Cassidy further mentioned that she was “making every effort” but continues to experience “more difficult periods” due to the sudden nature of Payne's passing. She expressed gratitude to her friends and relatives for providing her with unwavering encouragement during these challenging moments.

“I simply cannot sufficiently express my appreciation to everyone, all my companions, my kin, for their unwavering backing and for assisting me in remaining active,” she conveyed. “I am genuinely endeavoring to be as industrious as possible, rather than merely confining myself to my room throughout the day. Engaging in modest activities such as yoga, embarking on extended strolls … I am striving diligently to accomplish these.”
Sixty days prior, Cassidy commemorated Payne on what would have marked his 32nd year. She honored the artist by preparing a baked confection.
“A joyous birthday, Liam,” she penned in the caption of the August TikTok clip. “I'm certain you retain your fondness for sweets in the afterlife. My baking skills aren't what they used to be.”
Within the footage, Cassidy displayed deep emotion while engaged in the activity. As she ignited the candles, Cassidy began to weep uncontrollably. The video concluded with Cassidy serving a piece of the dessert to Nala, the dog she and Payne had rescued from an animal sanctuary only a month prior to the singer's passing.
