Kate Takes Solo Armistice Day Lead Amidst Royal Upheaval

Catherine, Princess of Wales, undertook a solo engagement for Armistice Day, an appearance typically reserved for those born into the Royal Family.

The 43-year-old Princess appeared subdued in head-to-toe black as she arrived at the Service of Remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum's Armed Forces Memorial on Tuesday, November 11. She joined other participants in a two-minute silence and placed a wreath in honor of military personnel who perished in service. This engagement also paid tribute to all members of the Armed Forces.

Her attendance on Tuesday marked the Princess's inaugural participation in this specific event. Historically, this service is attended by a "blood royal" — someone born into the monarchy and directly in the line of succession. Typically, spouses accompany these royal family members.

However, Kate is not the first royal consort to represent the family at this particular service. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, undertook the engagement alone the previous year.

The Princess of Wales' appearance on Tuesday followed her attendance at the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance service just days earlier, on Saturday, November 8. This event, held at London's Royal Albert Hall, saw Kate accompanied by her eldest son, Prince George.

The Princess and 12-year-old George were seated in the royal box with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, and Duchess Sophie. While other royals were in attendance, Prince William was conspicuously absent, as his trip to Brazil for the COP30 climate summit and the announcement of his Earthshot Prize finalists coincided with the event.

This occasion represented the first significant royal engagement amidst the continuing family controversy involving Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The 43-year-old Prince William steered clear of addressing the controversy directly during an interview with CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour, who had remarked on "a lot of change in your own family recently."

William redirected the discussion to the Earthshot Prize, calling it "a classic example of change." (The Prince of Wales had previously elaborated on his visions for change in the AppleTV series The Reluctant Traveler in October.)

"Instead of just discussing it, we are actively implementing it. That is my focus," he continued. "The individuals present here are the genuine action heroes, and progress will be achieved by supporting them, not solely by my actions."

He further stated, "I aspire to be among those who are committed to creating positive transformation and good in the world."

Prince William Supports King Charles Removing Andrew's Title Amid Kate Drama

William's international visit and the monarchy's recent public appearances followed King Charles, 76, revoking Andrew's, 65, princely title and removing him from Royal Lodge. These actions occurred as Andrew's association with Jeffrey Epstein and the accusations made by the late Virginia Giuffre against him persistently garnered media attention. (Andrew has consistently maintained his denial of the allegations.)

"Prince Andrew will henceforth be addressed as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor," read the statement issued late last month. "His tenancy at Royal Lodge has, until now, afforded him legal security to reside there."

The statement further detailed, "Official notice has now been delivered to relinquish the lease, and he will relocate to alternative private lodgings. These disciplinary measures are considered essential, despite his ongoing denials of the accusations against him."

Buckingham Palace's communiqué concluded by stating: "Their Majesties wish to clarify that their thoughts and deepest sympathies have always been, and will continue to be, with the victims and survivors of all forms of abuse."
