Katherine Del Rio Faces Challenges Amidst Husband David Del Rio's Matlock Exit

Katherine Del Rio Faces Challenges Amidst Husband David Del Rio's Matlock Exit

Actor David Del Rio, known for his role in the CBS series Matlock, was removed from the show's cast in October 2025 following an inquiry into sexual assault allegations.

Reports from Us Weekly at the time indicated that David — who is married to actress and culinary expert Katherine Del Rio — was involved in an incident with his Matlock costar Leah Lewis in September of that year, prompting an internal investigation by CBS. David was reportedly escorted from the Matlock set and subsequently let go from his part as first-year associate lawyer Billy Martinez.

Neither David nor his wife Katherine immediately commented on his departure from Matlock. Several cast members of Matlock — including Lewis and Skye P. Marshall — continued to follow Katherine on social media after the controversy surfaced, although many unfollowed her husband. (Lewis posted on Instagram that she was “moving forward with resilience” following the news.)

Katherine and David’s romance began unexpectedly in 2010 when she attended a Broadway production of In the Heights and was introduced to her future spouse — a cast member in the musical — at the stage door after the performance. Eight years later, David and Katherine exchanged vows after a fortunate reunion in Los Angeles.

1. Katherine Is an Actress and Chef

Katherine commenced her career as an actress with guest appearances in television comedies such as Big Time Rush and Awkward, in addition to featuring in numerous short films. She later described herself as an “actress, chef, and producer with a profound enthusiasm for creativity” in a May 2024 interview with Bold Journey.

“I’ve been engaged in theater since childhood and maintained that passion throughout my studies at New York University, continuing to perform in New York City,” she explained. “Upon relocating to Los Angeles, I expanded into producing while also embracing culinary arts. Between acting commitments, I pursued my chef career, working as a private chef for celebrities, catering on movie sets, curating gourmet picnic boxes, hosting influencer dinners, and even creating wedding cakes.”

Katherine emphasized that cooking was more than just a profession for her — it was an “extension of [her] artistic expression.”

“Drawing inspiration from the flavors encountered during my travels, I enjoy crafting exciting menus that delight my clients,” she stated.

2. How She Met Husband David

Katherine and David’s initial encounter was quite improbable; she attended a 2010 Broadway showing of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights with her parents. Her future husband, David, was a featured performer in that particular production at the time.

In a 2018 Inside Edition segment, Katherine recalled drawing a heart next to David’s photograph in the playbill and, encouraged by her father, meeting the cast after that evening’s performance. Katherine returned to see In the Heights multiple times before moving to Los Angeles.

“Who would have thought that seven years ago, when we saw that show and got tickets on a whim […] that would be the man you marry [and] have children with,” Katherine recounted in 2018.

Katherine had an unexpected reunion with David years later at a party in L.A. while she was discussing her fondness for In the Heights with friends.

“When he mentioned he was from In the Heights, I wondered, ‘Could this be David Del Rio?’” she recalled pondering.

Katherine boldly requested David perform a song from the musical on the spot, then corrected him when he made a lyrical error.

“Now, knowing him, I’m certain he disliked this because he isn’t that type of flashy person,” she admitted.

The two began dating, and David eventually proposed at the historic Richard Rogers Theater in New York City during their attendance at a performance of Hamilton.

“I always envisioned how I would propose,” he confessed. “But the moment I began speaking, we arrived at the stage door and I simply started forgetting everything I intended to say except the question.”

The couple exchanged vows during a destination wedding in Mexico in April 2018.

3. David and Katherine Founded Their Own Business

They established their own production company, named Theatre Row, in Austin, Texas, while David was filming the short-lived ABC romantic comedy series The Baker and the Beauty in 2020.

“[I co-founded the company] with my brilliant husband while residing in Puerto Rico during his 6-month shoot for The Baker and The Beauty,” she informed Voyage Austin in June 2023. “He is also an actor, so we are constantly relocating to wherever the work takes us! Since then, we have chosen to bring our production company to Austin and LA.”

She credited the launch of Theatre Row with providing both herself and David with greater stability in Hollywood.

“Our company has produced a feature film, sold a television series, been commissioned to write multiple screenplays, and is currently in pre- and post-production on numerous independent projects,” she stated at the time. “Having more oversight of my career feels empowering, rather than having to await an opportunity. Make no mistake, there is still considerable waiting involved as a writer/producer, but I am consistently engaged in something, which is a wonderful sensation.”

4. David and Katherine Share 2 Children

The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Lilia, in July 2023, with Katherine announcing via Instagram that her and David’s “lives [had] been fundamentally transformed.”

“On June 20–a day with unprecedented high temperatures in Austin TX—our perfect Lilia was born after 27 hours of labor,” she disclosed. “Life has since been a blissful, sleep-deprived haze, and our little summer solstice baby has completely astounded us in every conceivable way. We had no idea what to anticipate or what this would feel like, but WOW, it truly exceeds all expectations. There will never be sufficient words to express how profoundly we love her. Honored and truly blessed to introduce you to Lilliam Kellie Wallace Del Rio III.”

In March 2025, Katherine and David revealed that Lilia had become an older sister with the arrival of their second daughter, Coco.

“Coco Del Rio arrived with a smile on January 20, precisely during the peak of a winter storm,” she happily expressed. “Her big sister is utterly enamored with her, and we are indescribably joyful and exhausted. Thank you, God, for your miracles.”

5. Katherine Described 2024 as the ‘Hardest Year’

The actress and chef candidly discussed health challenges — and her unexpected pregnancy with Coco — in January 2025 while reflecting on the previous year’s difficulties.

Katherine wrote, “2024 proved to be the most challenging year of my life. Battling postpartum depression, a difficult pregnancy, & raising a toddler largely on my own while my incredible husband worked 14-hour days took a significant toll. Add in several relocations, personal loss, & a major identity shift, & I was close to my breaking point. God compelled me to pause, assess my mental well-being, & endeavor to rest — though with a toddler, that is easier said than done.”

She noted that numerous “moments of grace” occurred during her arduous year, including her pregnancy, “connecting with Kirsten Dunst (my idol) over postpartum difficulties & our lives alternating between LA/Austin” and “exploring the world with my angelic firstborn,” among other experiences.

Katherine acknowledged she was still “learning to intentionally navigate [her] marriage” despite “spending less time together” due to David’s demanding schedule with Matlock.

“Throughout it all, I am ultimately so proud of everything I sacrificed for my family because I am witnessing them thrive & that is more than worth it. God is good,” she concluded.
