Keanu Reeves Nearly Ditched His Name for KC Reeves
The name Keanu Reeves is iconic in Hollywood, yet the acclaimed actor nearly adopted a completely different identity.
“I started earning money around 16, so I was a working actor by 16 or 17,” stated Reeves, 61, during the Wednesday, October 15, installment of the “New Heights” podcast. “I was based in Toronto, Canada, when I secured a manager residing in Los Angeles. … At the age of 20, I journeyed by car to Los Angeles. Upon arrival, my manager informed me, ‘We intend to alter your name.’ That really served as my introduction to Hollywood.”
In response to whether an alternative name had already been selected, Reeves simply answered, “No.”
“I distinctly recall strolling along the shoreline, pondering, ‘My name? Should I consider changing it?’” Reeves recounted.

As he attempted to devise an alternative alias, Reeves elaborated that he contemplated using his middle name, Charles, or honoring the street where he spent his formative years.
“Consequently, I adopted the name KC Reeves. My initial credits appeared under KC Reeves,” he revealed, adding that he believes this was how he was identified in his debut movie. “But I simply couldn’t commit to it. I’d be at auditions, and they’d call out, ‘KC Reeves.’ I wouldn’t even respond. Half a year later, I decided, ‘I’m not continuing with this.’ That whole experience really defined my early days in Hollywood.”
Reeves achieved widespread recognition in 1989 following his breakthrough performance in the comedic film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and has subsequently appeared in numerous other acclaimed movies such as Speed and the John Wick series. Beyond his professional achievements, Reeves has attracted media attention for his personal relationships, notably recent rumors suggesting a clandestine marriage to his partner Alexandra Grant.
“Indeed, this isn’t the initial instance,” Reeves commented on the rumors during an interview with E! News at the New York City premiere of his newest film, Good Fortune, held on Monday, October 13. “We have been in a relationship for quite some time now.”
Keanu Reeves' Representative Responds to Alexandra Grant Marriage Rumors
“The notion of a wedding is a pleasant one,” Reeves proceeded. “Many individuals sent thoughtful messages and the like, but Alexandra handled the situation admirably by essentially stating, ‘We appreciate the sentiment, but this is the truth.’”
In September, Grant refuted the claims that she and Reeves had wed, mere days after the actor’s spokesperson also dismissed the circulating stories. (“It is unfounded,” Reeves’ representative informed E! News previously. “They are not spouses.”)
“This image is authentic. It’s neither an engagement picture nor an AI-generated wedding announcement… just a kiss! (Perhaps captured immediately before or after, judging by our somewhat playful expressions!) We are at Roden Crater, and Keanu and Gard had just concluded their interview with James Turrell for Visionaries,” Grant posted on Instagram, accompanying a picture of herself and Reeves sharing an embrace.
She added, “I’m posting this to express gratitude for all the well wishes regarding our marriage. However, we did not tie the knot. While positive news is certainly welcome these days, this remains false information, so please exercise caution! Therefore, I offer you a glimpse of genuine joy!”
