King Charles III and his siblings a lifelong bond
King Charles III holds a more profound role than just the nation's sovereign for his younger siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.
Charles was the inaugural child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Following Charles' birth in November 1948, the royal couple broadened their family with Anne in August 1950.
After the passing of her father, George VI, in 1952, Elizabeth assumed the crown at 25 years old. Throughout her time on the throne, she brought sons Andrew and Edward into the world in February 1960 and March 1964, respectively.
Despite their differing ages, the quartet maintains a powerful connection. Subsequent to Elizabeth's demise in November 2022, the royal siblings paid tribute to their deceased mother during her memorable vigil.
Upon Charles's coronation in May 2023, his sister and brothers were present for the significant event. Nevertheless, family discord emerged regarding Prince Andrew's association with the discredited financier Jeffrey Epstein, culminating in Andrew relinquishing his royal title in October 2025.
Is Prince Andrew Still an Active Royal? His Current Standing Within the Family
Continue reading to discover Charles' connections with each of his siblings:
Princess Anne
Anne and Charles appear to share the most robust connection among all their siblings, owing to their similar ages. The sibling pair were infants when they relocated to Buckingham Palace, after their mother's coronation.
Charles and Anne's upbringing, as the presumptive heir and the 'spare,' seemingly equipped them for their positions within the royal household. Nonetheless, the duo also possesses a mutual fondness for horticulture and athletics. During their early lives, Charles and Anne relished equestrian activities side-by-side. They have been present at polo competitions alongside each other throughout the years.
Charles and Anne's strong bond was publicly showcased as they headed their late mother's procession, with Andrew and Edward trailing closely.
After Elizabeth's passing, Anne stood in support of Charles as he ascended to the monarchy. During his coronation, the Princess Royal assumed the esteemed "Gold-Stick-in-Waiting" position, traditionally assigned to an individual responsible for the Sovereign's protection. Furthermore, she served as Charles' personal aide-de-camp and rode on horseback directly behind him and his wife, Queen Camilla.
During Charles' rule, he designated both Anne and Edward as Counselors of State, empowering them to carry out constitutional responsibilities on their brother's behalf. Subsequent to Charles' cancer diagnosis announcement in February 2024, Anne, recognized as one of the most active members of the royal family, continued her royal engagements and substituted for her brother when required.
Princess Anne was among the royals who stood in for King Charles III at public events after his diagnosis with an unspecified type of cancer in February 2024. She notably represented her elder brother as a royal delegate at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle the day after Charles disclosed his diagnosis.
Prince Andrew
Andrew and Charles might have a 12-year age gap, yet this never prevented the siblings from maintaining a close relationship. Throughout the years, they have consistently participated in public functions side-by-side.
When Charles married Princess Diana in 1981, both Andrew and Edward acted as best men for the royal nuptials. Later, Charles also facilitated a match for Andrew by presenting him to Sarah Ferguson, his wife from 1986 to 1996. The siblings frequently enjoyed double dates with their respective partners at the time.
Though they were close in their younger days, Andrew and Charles have experienced a turbulent relationship recently. When details emerged about Andrew's connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2020, he withdrew from his role as an active member of the royal family.
Andrew subsequently faced a sexual assault lawsuit but eventually reached a settlement. Nevertheless, Andrew was deprived of his royal designations by his mother in January 2022. (Charles has refrained from publicly addressing the accusations leveled against his younger brother.)
Although Andrew and Charles maintained some separation after Andrew's controversies, the pair reconvened in September 2022 for their mother's funeral. Andrew accompanied his siblings as they proceeded behind their mother's casket.
Andrew was also present at Charles's coronation in May 2023.
The Epstein controversy reignited in October 2025 as numerous U.K. news sources released purported emails exchanged between Prince Andrew, Ferguson, and Epstein. Notably, an email dispatched weeks after the duchess had publicly disassociated herself from Epstein reportedly showed her implying that the convicted sex offender had “consistently been a loyal, benevolent, and exceptional friend to me and my relatives.”
A representative for Ferguson informed BBC News: “The duchess expressed her remorse regarding her connection with Epstein many years prior, and as always, her primary concern is for his victims.”
“Similar to many individuals, she was deceived by his falsehoods,” Ferguson's declaration proceeded. “The moment she became cognizant of the magnitude of the accusations against him, she not only ceased communication but publicly denounced him, to the point where he subsequently threatened to sue her for libel for linking him with paedophilia.”
Delving Into King Charles III and Prince Edward’s Fraternal Relationship Across the Years
Given the re-emerged emails, royal sources indicated that Andrew and Ferguson would probably not receive an invitation to celebrate Christmas 2025 with the wider family.
The dispute reached its climax in October 2025 when Andrew declared his intention to renounce his royal title.
“After discussions with The King, and my immediate and extended family, we have determined that the ongoing allegations concerning me divert attention from the duties of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew stated to Us Weekly. “I have chosen, as has always been my principle, to prioritize my obligations to my family and nation. I uphold my decision made five years ago to withdraw from public engagement.”
Andrew finished. “With His Majesty's consent, we believe I must now take an additional step. Consequently, I will no longer employ my title or the accolades bestowed upon me. As I have stated before, I adamantly refute the allegations against me.”
Prince Edward
Notwithstanding their 16-year age difference, Andrew and Edward appeared to be close during their formative years. During his teenage years, Charles dedicated significant time to Edward and would engage in recreational activities with his youngest sibling. Edward would also be present at Charles' numerous polo matches and would enthusiastically support his elder brother from the periphery.
In 1999, Edward married Duchess Sophie, with whom Charles has maintained a close relationship over time.
Nevertheless, Edward and Charles reportedly encountered difficulties concerning Edward's production firm, Ardent Productions. During Charles' eldest son Prince William's university studies in 2001, a film crew member from Ardent purportedly attempted to capture footage of the young royal. In 2002, Edward resigned from the company to dedicate himself to his responsibilities as a royal family member. Ardent Productions ceased operations in June 2009.
Charles and Edward grew closer in 2022 due to their mother's passing. Both siblings journeyed with their spouses to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be with the queen as she passed away. Nonetheless, solely Charles and Camilla arrived in time to bid their farewells. Edward and Sophie reached Scotland a brief period after Elizabeth's demise.
Upon Charles' ascension to the throne, he conferred the title Duke of Edinburgh upon his youngest sibling.
The Duke of Edinburgh was among the rare royals who provided a direct comment on King Charles' health status after his 2024 cancer diagnosis.
“We were all profoundly thankful for the exceptional encouragement from everyone,” Prince Edward conveyed to the Daily Mail in March 2024. “I understand he has been greatly moved by all of it. He is progressing favorably, and we are hopeful that everything will proceed smoothly.”
