Lakers Star Claims Ex Inserted Tracking Device in Son's Diaper Bag
Former Los Angeles Lakers player Christian Wood alleges that his ex-partner Yasmine Lopez inserted a tracking device into their 2-year-old son Kobe’s diaper bag, purportedly to discover his home address, Us Weekly can exclusively reveal.
On Tuesday, January 6, Wood, 30, who shares a son named Kobe with Lopez, submitted court documents asserting that his sister found the device following a recent transfer of custody.
Wood stated that his sister examined Kobe’s diaper bag and “discovered a small, concealed device, referred to as a ‘tile,’ designed for tracking.” (According to the court documents, Lopez refuted Wood’s assertion that she was monitoring his whereabouts.)
“The tracking device was carefully concealed within Kobe’s diaper bag to avoid detection,” Wood claimed. “It was not visible or disclosed, and I have not authorized any tracking device to be placed in Kobe’s belongings.”
He explained, “Based on the secretive placement of the tracking device, it was intended to monitor my movements and location through Kobe. This would provide [Lopez] with confidential information, identifying my residence and whereabouts. The court has previously ordered that [Lopez] is prohibited from obtaining this information.”
Wood added that the hidden tracking device “represents unauthorized electronic surveillance, which is a direct violation” of the temporary restraining order he was granted in November 2025. As Us previously reported, Wood was awarded primary custody of Kobe. The order was modified to allow Lopez scheduled time with her son.
“The last time [Lopez] knew my residential address, there was an attempt made against my life. My safety has once again been jeopardized due to [Lopez],” the former NBA star wrote. “Placing the concealed tracking device into Kobe’s diaper bag was a deliberate attempt to monitor Kobe and me; this was not an accident.”

Wood wrote, “I am deeply concerned for my safety and the safety of Kobe. [Lopez] has repeatedly demonstrated to me and to this Court that she disregards the Court’s directives. Ms. Lopez is so focused on obtaining my residential address that she has utilized Kobe as a means to achieve it.”
“I am uncertain of what information [Lopez] has obtained from this tracking device and, as a result, I am now seeking round-the-clock personal security to safeguard my life.”
A representative for Yasmine clarified her use of the tracking device exclusively with Us. “Yasmine employs location trackers for both of her children consistently as a standard safety precaution. The device is kept in their school bags or diaper bags and travels with them daily, including when they are with family members such as Yasmine’s mother. This practice has been in place for some time and is not specific to, or directed at, Christian. It is simply part of Yasmine’s approach to ensuring her children’s safety and peace of mind at all times,” the statement read.
In court documents filed the same day, Lopez accused Wood of improperly securing his temporary restraining order. She firmly denied any involvement in the attempted intrusion at Wood’s home.
Lopez claimed Wood used the break-in at his home “to distract and attempt to gain custody of our son.”
(In prior documents, Lopez alleged that Wood had late-night visitors at his home, “and there were indications and rumors that firearms were present inside the home.”)
In her new filing, Lopez also expressed alarm for their son’s safety. Lopez requested sole custody of their son.

In response, Wood’s lawyer argued, “If [Lopez] genuinely believed the minor child was in immediate danger, [Lopez] would not have waited until after reviewing [Wood’s recent motion] to seek emergency court intervention.”
As Us previously reported, Lopez also obtained her own temporary restraining order against Wood.

Lopez claimed that Wood kicked and slapped her from behind during a custody exchange. She believes he was upset after discovering she had a new romantic partner. She also claimed he threatened her on May 8, 2024, during a disagreement about their son.
She claimed he told her he would end her life if she left with their son that day. She also claimed he spat on her and choked her during a 2024 Valentine’s Day date in Utah.
