Laufey Gently Corrects Golden Globes Photographers' Identity Mix-Up
Singer Laufey ensured everyone recognized her name at the 2026 Golden Globes.
Laufey, 26, struck poses for photographs on the red carpet prior to the awards show on Sunday, January 11. As the musician — whose full name is Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir — received direction from photographers, she noticed they repeatedly referred to her as “Megan.”
“My name isn’t Megan, so … I don’t know,” Laufey remarked with a puzzled expression, as seen in a video shared by Pop Crave via X.
The photographers then seemed to realize their error, with one exclaiming, “Oh!” Laufey simply chuckled at the misunderstanding.

Numerous fans in the comments suggested the photographers mistook Laufey for Megan (full name Megan Meiyok Skiendiel) of the group Katseye.
“Wait because —,” one user wrote, sharing side-by-side images of Laufey and Megan to highlight their similarities.
“I mean I can see it, they really do resemble each other, but Megan likely wouldn’t be present without her group, so the mistake doesn’t quite add up,” another person added.
Some fans took a moment to find humor in Laufey’s reaction to the photographers.
“Lol she’s adorable,” another person added.
One fan described it as “classic Laufey energy.”
Laufey is a jazz pop, classical, and bossa nova artist best known for her hit “From the Start” and her 2023 album, Bewitched, which earned the singer a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Her latest album, A Matter of Time, is nominated in the same category at the 2026 Grammys.
Laufey’s red carpet moment echoed in the minds of some fans, recalling Chappell Roan, who went viral in 2024 after she shouted at a photographer to “shut the f up” at the MTV Video Music Awards following their initial shout at her.
“You shut the f up. No, not me, bitch,” she said.
Roan, 27, later clarified her outburst in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“This is quite overwhelming and quite frightening,” the “Hot to Go!” singer stated. “I think for someone who experiences a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you … the carpet is terrifying, and I yelled back. You don’t get to yell at me like that.”
Roan also confronted a photographer at the world premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour in 2024, alleging that they had been “disrespectful” to her at a previous event.
“You were so rude to me. I deserve an apology for that,” she said.
Roan and Laufey aren’t the only stars to address photographers on red carpets.
In November 2025, Millie Bobby Brown made headlines when a photographer instructed her to “smile” on the red carpet at the Stranger Things season 5 premiere.
“Smile? You smile!” she responded before departing.
Hannah Waddingham, the Ted Lasso star, replied to someone who told her to “show some leg.”
“Oh, my God, you’d never say that to a man, my friend,” she said. “Don’t be a d, otherwise I’ll move off. Don’t say, ‘Show me leg.’ No. Please have some manners.”
