Lauren Graham Honors Diane Keaton With Heartfelt Letter Shared Post-Passing
Lauren Graham is honoring her Because I Said So costar Diane Keaton following the actress’ unexpected passing.
Graham, 58, posted on Instagram on Monday, October 13, a section of a letter Keaton had sent her in the years prior to her death.
“Please don’t be a stranger. Please invite me to one of your dinners. And finally …. Please hug yourself in the morning, and remember to write your book, and don’t let yourself get anxious, you big winner you. Love, Di,” a part of the letter stated.
In her post’s caption, Graham reflected on her meaningful bond with Keaton over time, as well as the significant influence the late actress exerted.

“A few lines from a letter Diane Keaton wrote me years ago, when writing a book was just a dream of mine,” Graham captioned the post. “Her work as an actor was an inspiration to me. Her encouragement changed my life.” (Graham is a prolific author, having published numerous books including 2022’s Have I Told You This Already?)
Keaton and Graham played the roles of mother Daphne Wilder and daughter Maggie, respectively, in 2007’s Because I Said So alongside Mandy Moore, Gabriel Macht, Tom Everett Scott, Piper Perabo, Stephen Collins, Colin Ferguson and Tony Hale.
In the comments section of Graham’s post, fans shared their sympathies and recollections of Keaton.
“What a wonderful memory to cherish,” one person wrote, while another said, “The individuals we encounter throughout life contribute to molding our fate.”
“You are so fortunate to possess this memento of her to hold dear forever!” a third person wrote, while a fourth person said, “Such a treasured friend. It appears she was a source of encouragement for everyone.”
Keaton’s death was verified on Saturday, October 11, at 79 years old. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed; however, a friend of the star later informed People that Keaton’s health “deteriorated quite rapidly, which devastated all who held her dear.”
“During her last months, she was exclusively attended by her immediate family, who opted to maintain extreme privacy,” the friend disclosed to the publication. “Even acquaintances of many years were not entirely cognizant of the situation.”

Following the announcement of Keaton’s demise, Moore, 41, who starred in Because I Said So, also posted a homage to her cinematic mother on Instagram.
“People often say not to meet your heroes, but I had the privilege of working with one of mine and even addressing her as ‘mom’ for several months. A lifelong distinction,” Moore wrote alongside two pictures with Keaton on Instagram Saturday. “What a brilliant individual Di remains and was. I am profoundly saddened by her absence for numerous reasons, but also because it seemed she would grace us indefinitely, enchanting us with her skill and allure (and her fashion, truly)!!! Among the finest talents ever. My deepest affections to her offspring and family.”
Additional actors who had the opportunity to portray Keaton’s cinematic offspring also offered their respects, notably Emma Roberts. Roberts, 34, took on the role of Keaton’s daughter in the 2023 film Maybe I Do.
“Simply the best,” Roberts conveyed through her Instagram Stories, accompanying it with an image of Keaton. “Extremely fortunate to have collaborated with her. Love you, Diane.”
