Law Roach Unretires and Reveals the Power of His Personal Archives

Law Roach has returned, creating the impression he was never truly gone. The renowned celebrity image-maker shared exclusively with Us Weekly the reasons behind his decision to end his retirement.

“I’ve resumed full-time styling. I simply couldn't stay away,” Roach, aged 47, informed Us during the September 11 launch event for a 50-piece curated collection from his personal archives at What Goes Around Comes Around in SoHo.

Roach’s comeback occurs two years after his retirement announcement, which reverberated across the fashion world. “RETIRED,” declared an image he shared on Instagram on March 14, 2023. His accompanying caption partly stated, “the politics, the deceit, and the fabricated stories ultimately overwhelmed me!”

The following day, he clarified in a Vogue interview that he was withdrawing from celebrity styling specifically, but not departing from the broader fashion industry.

Nonetheless, more than two years later, the iconic stylist was recently photographed on September 7 at the MTV VMAs, accompanying his enduring client, Ariana Grande, in matching ensembles. He is also credited with curating looks for recent awards ceremonies and fashion week appearances for Jodie Turner- Smith, Tyler James Williams, Jesse Williams, and Ryan Destiny; the latter also attended his September 11 gathering.

"Law Roach contributes an unmatched creative perspective and a profound grasp of fashion heritage to our label," Seth Weisser, CEO of What Goes Around Comes Around, commented in a press statement preceding the collaboration between the celebrated stylist and the upscale vintage fashion retailer.

The glittering New York Fashion Week 2025 inaugural event represented Roach’s initial public display of archival items from his personal compilation. Among the distinguished guests were Rachel Zoe, Christian Siriano, Jackie Aina, Christian Combs, Jessie and D'Lila Combs, Keri Hilson, Amerie, Julez Smith, Serena Page, Chelley Bissainthe, and many others.

“My personal collection is vast, and I sometimes feel remorseful that these garments aren't being worn, seen, or appreciated by others,” Roach disclosed to Us. “I feel quite self-centered. Therefore, when chances arose, I thought, what better venue to exhibit them than What Goes Around Comes Around.”

Among the garments Roach showcased at the occasion were creations by Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto.

“I believe that often, one doesn't encounter many Japanese designers. We frequently see Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, but I possessed this incredible Yohji collection that I wished to present,” Roach explained.

The curated Law Roach selection can be purchased digitally or physically at the What Goes Around Comes Around outlets in SoHo and Beverly Hills.

Roach also shared with Us an emerging designer who has currently captured his attention.

“I truly admire fresh talent. And sometimes, a single item can spark a feeling within me,” Roach stated. “So I’m observing all talents, but I will mention that Steve O Smith, a recent LVMH prize competitor, had a design worn by Ariana [Grande] on stage during one of her award moments at the MTV [VMAs] recently. I’m very enthusiastic about his future.”

When questioned about anyone from whom he would never accept styling guidance, Roach responded unequivocally.

“Anyone at all,” he declared.
