Lin-Manuel Miranda Celebrates Two Major Milestones With A Quiet Anniversary and A Grand Re-Release
This week marks multiple significant achievements for Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Speaking directly to his admirers at the New York City premiere of his celebrated musical's cinematic adaptation on Wednesday, September 3, the 45-year-old Miranda shared exclusively with Us Weekly: “I send my love to all of you, and I hope you catch Hamilton in cinemas this September 5.” He added, “I won't be attending. Instead, I’ll be commemorating two decades of partnership and 15 years of marriage with my spouse.”
While the cinematic rendition of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical first premiered on Disney+ in July 2020, it is now being brought to theaters across the nation and in Puerto Rico this Friday, September 5, to mark the tenth anniversary of Hamilton’s first appearance on Broadway.
Coincidentally, this date also marks the exact 15th anniversary of Miranda’s marriage to his wife, Vanessa Nadal.
Broadway's Most Celebrated Relationships Beyond the Stage
Describing his anniversary arrangements to Us, Miranda shared, “Our entire wedding party will be reuniting, and we’re simply heading to my place.” He continued, “We’ll enjoy a lovely meal, do some karaoke. That's what we have in mind. I anticipate spending the majority of the movie's opening weekend recovering.”
Miranda and Nadal, 43, were high school classmates, later rekindling their connection through Facebook. Their relationship began in 2005, leading to their marriage in 2010, followed by the births of their sons, Sebastian in 2014 and Francisco in 2018.
Nadal has supported the playwright and actor from the initial stages of Hamilton, a project that consumed seven years of his life before its Broadway debut in 2015. A decade on, the production continues its run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
The Hamilton movie, shot in June 2016, stars a majority of the Tony Award-winning musical’s original ensemble, such as Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, and Phillipa Soo.
Despite achieving immense triumph with his biographical musical focusing on Alexander Hamilton and America's formation, Miranda expresses uncertainty about crafting a political production set in contemporary times.

When questioned by Us about the prospect of a new musical exploring current political affairs, Miranda stated, “I believe I wouldn’t approach this particular period at all. These are challenging times. It’s difficult to envision where songs and choreography would fit in.” He mused, “I would likely take a different direction. Perhaps I’d create a piece about a very minor local election, illustrating how that community’s decisions mirror global events, rather than undertaking a subject as grand as the nation’s founding, which was quite a bold undertaking for a 28-year-old. That's my perspective now, as a 45-year-old.”
Certainly ambitious, yet the Tony recipient conceded, “It turned out alright.”
