Loughlin and Huffman's College Admissions Scandal Fallout Continues
Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, along with numerous university coaches and administrators, faced charges in the widespread college admissions scheme on March 12, 2019 — a controversy whose repercussions and jail terms continue to attract media attention.
Per official court records, the former Full House star and her spouse, Mossimo Giannulli, purportedly “consented to hand over $500,000 in illicit payments to secure their two daughters' false designation as recruits for the USC crew team — regardless of their actual lack of involvement in the sport — thus enabling their entry into USC.”
Loughlin and Giannulli share daughters Bella and Olivia Jade. After their initial accusations of fraud, the couple faced further charges for money laundering and bribery. Although they first denied all allegations, the pair accepted a plea agreement in May 2020.
Loughlin and Giannulli appeared before the court in August 2020 through a Zoom call, due to the ongoing coronavirus health crisis.
Huffman, on her side, “submitted an alleged charitable donation of $15,000 … to be involved in the university admission test manipulation scheme for her elder daughter,” according to legal documents.
The performer and her husband, William H. Macy, have two daughters, Sophia and Georgia.
The former Desperate Housewives star had plans to repeat the scheme for her younger daughter but ultimately chose against it, as detailed in the documents.
Following Huffman's guilty plea to the fraud charges, she received a 14-day prison sentence. She also expressed remorse for her involvement in the affair, confessing to paying to boost Sophia's SAT results.
