Louis Tomlinson Calls Logan Paul "Loathsome" Over Liam Payne Podcast Fallout
Louis Tomlinson harbors an enduring resentment towards Logan Paul stemming from the contentious discussion the internet personality conducted with the departed Liam Payne.
“I will eternally hold [Paul] in contempt, a truly loathsome individual,” Tomlinson, 33, expressed heatedly in an Independent conversation that appeared on Saturday, October 18.
Critiquing Paul’s foray into podcasting, Tomlinson remarked further, “I believe that encapsulates the issue with certain facets of modern ‘media.’ … I prefer to believe that the majority of journalists, indeed some journalists, uphold a professional obligation for ethical conduct.”

Payne featured on Paul’s “Impaulsive” program in May 2022 and swiftly drew criticism from One Direction enthusiasts for asserting sole responsibility for the group's success and disclosing private details. Additionally, Payne referred to Zayn Malik as a “jerk,” confessed to an intense animosity between himself and Tomlinson during their peak popularity, and alleged an undisclosed bandmate “shoved him against a wall” during an altercation behind the scenes.
Over the subsequent days and months, Payne publicly expressed remorse on several occasions.
He initially addressed Malik, 32, through X in June 2022, stating, “Upon reflection, perhaps I didn’t express myself as clearly as intended. My point was that disagreements will always arise, but I will consistently, unequivocally support him. That constitutes family. Zayn is like a brother to me, and my loyalty to him is unwavering.”
Payne subsequently sought reconciliation with Tomlinson in March 2023, admitting he had been “not in his right mind” due to whiskey consumption during the podcast recording.

“I feel regretful during those instances for not upholding the standard of friendship you’ve shown me,” he conveyed in an Instagram update. “Thankfully, I now have the opportunity, and I'm back to my true self, so I will endeavor to rectify things.”
Following that, in July 2023, Payne disclosed a 100-day stay in rehabilitation, which afforded him “ample opportunity” to contemplate his divisive remarks concerning his past group members.
“Much of what I uttered stemmed from a misguided perspective,” he admitted in a YouTube clip. “I was intensely frustrated by my surroundings and, rather than engaging in self-reflection, I chose to direct my gaze outward at everyone else; I believe I simply vented my frustrations on others, which was fundamentally incorrect.”
Payne passed away in October 2024 following a fall from the third-story balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.

A subsequent toxicology analysis indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant within Payne’s body at the moment of his unfortunate demise. Two individuals have faced charges for providing the “Strip That Down” vocalist with illicit substances.
The four remaining members from One Direction’s initial formation, namely Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Tomlinson, and Malik, were present at Payne’s memorial service in Buckinghamshire, England, during November 2024.
“That’s an event I will truly never come to terms with,” Tomlinson conveyed to The Independent regarding Payne’s passing, although he noted it has “unquestionably” fostered greater unity among the group in the present day.
