Love Was in the Stands: A Look at Winter Olympians' Romances
As Team USA’s top athletes competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics, their significant others were among their most enthusiastic supporters.
Shaun White, who participated in his last Winter Olympics in February 2022, had been dating actress Nina Dobrev since 2020. The pair were a couple until they ended their engagement in September 2025.
In January 2022, White reminisced to Us Weekly about an unplanned trip to visit Dobrev on the set of Redeeming Love in South Africa.
“That was actually how we initially began our relationship,” White shared with Us. “I was like, ‘Alright. Yes. Okay.’ And she [felt], ‘Oh, this man, he’s here to stay. He’s committed.’ So that’s something we both value. We both enjoy exploring new places.”
Although the 2022 Olympians’ partners couldn’t be present to support them in person because of coronavirus restrictions, admirers like Dobrev (and her pets!) made do with watching the sporting events on television.
“We’ll be eagerly watching from home and rooting for him,” the Vampire Diaries star told Us in February 2022. “I’m really, really thrilled for him. I’m looking forward to it. I recorded it, so it’s at the house, and as soon as I get back, I’m going to relax with my friends and we’re going to reconnect and view it. … [He’s had] such an incredibly lengthy and impressive, successful career in the sport.”
