Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Mother Shares Peace and Grief Following Actor's Passing
Pamela, the mother of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, has shared insights into how his family and friends are dealing with the actor's passing.
During an interview on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts, Pamela expressed her feeling of "peace with everything that happened," stating her conviction that it was her son's designated "time" to "transition" from this world.
"I am deeply thankful for being selected as his mother. … No stone was left unturned," she revealed in the interview, broadcast on Tuesday, September 16. "There were no regrets or unanswered questions. … I sense that our shared path as mother and son had reached its conclusion."
Regarding Warner's spouse, Tenisha, and their child, Pamela noted that their sorrow remains profound.
"Young ones grieve in their own ways," she clarified. "His daughter witnessed the attempts to revive him, and that experience, I understand, is exceptionally harrowing."

Pamela further stated, "She held immense love for her father. She cherished her 'papa.' He was 'papa' to her. Consequently, both are experiencing profound sorrow."
In July, reports emerged that Warner, celebrated for his portrayal of Theo Huxtable in The Cosby Show, passed away at age 54 following an accidental drowning incident on a Costa Rican beach. Authorities subsequently verified his cause of death as asphyxia resulting from submersion.
During her conversation with Roberts, Pamela disclosed that her granddaughter and Tenisha had been in Costa Rica for a period of three weeks before Warner arrived. "She receives her education at home, and this trip was part of an immersion curriculum," Pamela mentioned concerning her granddaughter, adding that "the spouses" arrived in the program's last week for "leisure activities."
Pamela had earlier addressed her son's demise publicly through a heartfelt Instagram post in August. "It goes without saying that our hearts are burdened by Malcolm's passing. He was a compassionate, affectionate individual with vast empathy for humankind," she penned then. "His desire was for everyone to recognize their inherent power and potential to achieve and evolve. This pursuit, focused on personal transformation for complete engagement in one's life, was his most recent endeavor."
Her statement further read: "Malcolm embodied an extraordinary husband, father, and son — a man profoundly enamored with existence, his spouse, and his child. He served not merely as my son but also as my educator, mentor, trusted ally, professional colleague, and closest friend. He was the son whose father held immense pride in him and loved him intensely and without reservation."
Pamela stated that her son "made a lasting impact on the planet" through both his abilities and his empathy for fellow humans. "As his mother, I have countless words to express. They would fill many books. Yet, what I shall convey is my profound gratitude that he selected me to be his mother, to enter my being," she expressed. "This is a privilege and a gift that will remain with me throughout my existence."
She reassured admirers that Warner was "at peace" upon his death and "experienced no suffering," writing, "This moment was appointed for him. His purpose on Earth had been fulfilled."
Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Most Heartfelt Statements Regarding His Daughter Prior to His Passing
Tenisha, for her contribution, had previously opted to remain private following her marriage to the actor in 2017. She released her initial declaration and wedding photographs on Instagram on Friday, September 12.
"We appreciate your outpouring of affection during this sensitive period," Tenisha expressed. "Our anniversary falls tomorrow — and my heart is fully receptive. I am, for the very first time, offering a brief look at the affection that initiated everything."
Tenisha announced that she and her daughter were "formally launching The Warner Family Foundation" with the aim to "continue the enduring work my husband and I started — an initiative designed to foster children's innate brilliance and empower young creatives to innovate without boundaries. This embodies love, persisting. Still creating. Still propelling us onward."
In collaboration with Tenisha, Pamela is diligently striving to preserve Warner's remembrance. "Offer affection whenever possible, extend generosity when you are able. Simply strive for self-improvement. Just be better," she articulated, her voice trembling with emotion. "For that was his aspiration, and what he dedicated himself to. We are all capable of becoming improved versions of ourselves."
