Maria Shriver Overwhelmed with Happiness as Son Patrick Schwarzenegger Weds Abby Champion

It was evident that Maria Shriver felt immense happiness about Patrick Schwarzenegger's recent nuptials to Abby Champion.

“One minute you’re tying his bow tie, the next he’s getting hitched!” Shriver, 69, expressed on Instagram on Monday, September 15. Her post included a vintage photograph of her assisting her son with his tie, alongside several images from his wedding to Champion, 28. She mused, “The years truly race by when you’re a mother or father.”

Shriver, who shares Patrick, 31, as well as Katherine, Christina, and Christopher with her former husband Arnold Schwarzenegger, then proceeded to “extend her congratulations” to Patrick and her “new daughter-in-law on their magnificent wedding.”

“I am incredibly proud of them, of their affection, their dedication to one another,” she effused in her online message. “They are the closest of friends, and they are surrounded by wonderful companions, a loving and supportive family, and divine blessings.”

The seasoned journalist described witnessing her “baby boy mature into an honorable man and embark on this significant life step” as a “profound experience,” admitting that she “shed tears” at their wedding on September 6.

“Oh, yes I did, but I was also overflowing with happiness. I am thankful to a higher power to be present and to witness such a beautiful union,” Shriver stated. “I wish the newlyweds a lifetime filled with mutual understanding, deep love, and continuous empathy for one another. And enchantment! Bravo, Patrick and Abby! My love for you both is everlasting and profound!”

Less than two weeks prior, the White Lotus actor and Champion exchanged vows in a waterside ceremony at the Gozzer Ranch country club in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, according to photographs released by the Daily Mail.

Reports from multiple news outlets confirmed that Patrick’s parents, along with his sister Katherine, 35, and her spouse, Chris Pratt, were among the attendees.

Following their marriage, Champion disclosed that Patrick was very involved in the arrangements for their wedding day.

“Interestingly enough, it’s more in line with Patrick’s nature to immerse himself in the floral arrangements and small details,” the model informed Vogue on Saturday, September 13. “He provided a great deal of help, which I truly appreciated. … I still can’t quite believe it’s finished. It all unfolded like a dream, [and] I am so excited to begin this new chapter with Patrick.”

Patrick and Champion began their relationship in 2016 and announced their engagement on social media in December 2023.

“ETERNALLY AND FOREVER,” they posted in a joint Instagram update.

One month later, Patrick revealed that he and Champion felt no urgency to marry.

“We’ve been a couple for 10 years, so it feels like we’re already married,” he mentioned in a January interview with InStyle. “But we are better individuals together than we would be apart. We inspire the best in each other. I sense that I am the finest version of myself with her and I believe she feels the same.”
