Martha Stewart is prepared to recount her experiences of having been struck by lightning on three separate occasions throughout her life.
“My initial encounter occurred as I stood at my sink in a charming Massachusetts cottage. I was engaged in washing dishes, gazing at a lovely garden I had created, where a metal well casing extended into the earth,” Stewart shared during the Monday, December 1, episode of QVC’s “50+ & Unfiltered” podcast. “The tap was running. As I watched from the window, scrubbing plates, the lightning bolt descended, zigzagging towards the well casing. … Suddenly, it emerged from the running water in the faucet, striking me directly in the abdomen and knocking me to the ground.”
Despite the frightening incident happening nearly 55 years ago, Stewart retains a clear recollection of the unusual event.
“I was flung to the floor,” she recounted to QVC program host Shawn Killinger. “It caused significant pain, and I had a mark on my stomach, a slight burn.”

Stewart then humorously suggested that she is “attracted to lightning” as she described two more instances of being hit by the atmospheric phenomenon.
“Another time, I was conversing on the phone in my Westport residence,” she stated. “I witnessed lightning descend through the skylight, travel directly through the phone into my ear, and zap, zap, zap. A different occasion happened in the garden.”
Stewart further elaborated, “However, I have also been electrocuted once. That was the most severe. That particular incident truly harmed me, necessitating a hospital visit.”

“I am striving to avoid surgical procedures. It holds no appeal for me,” she explained. “I adhere to a belief that if one diligently cares for themselves and follows rigorous, yet non-detrimental, routines, one can maintain a good appearance, feel well, and thrive throughout their entire life. Does it appear as though I require plastic surgery? I am 84 years old and I am making a concerted effort to look exceptionally good.”

When questioned about her preference for burial or cremation after her passing, Stewart disclosed an alternative plan.
“I intend to be composted,” she stated before attempting to elucidate the process. “When one of my horses passes away, we excavate a considerably deep, large hole in one of my fields. We maintain a pet cemetery, and the horse is enveloped in a linen sheet and very carefully lowered into this serene grave. I desire to be placed there.”
Stewart concluded, “These coffin arrangements and all that entails? Absolutely not.”
