Martin and Short Honor Diane Keaton in Heartfelt Las Vegas Tribute

During a recent performance in Las Vegas, Steve Martin and Martin Short paid a heartfelt homage to their departed Father of the Bride castmate, Diane Keaton.

Gracing the stage at the Wynn's Encore Theater, Martin, 80, and Short, 75, concluded their Saturday, October 11, performance by displaying an image of Keaton on the backdrop screen. Audience members shared clips on X showing the comedy duo pointing to the display as the audience erupted in cheers. Short then sent a kiss to Keaton's picture, after which he and Martin raised their glasses in a clinking toast to the esteemed actress.

Keaton's passing at 79 on Saturday deeply affected Hollywood, leading many of her past colleagues to commemorate her remarkable life and iconic career. Martin posted an Instagram screenshot from an Interview Magazine article featuring Short posing the question to Keaton, “Between me and Steve Martin, who do you find sexier?”

Keaton's response was, “Honestly, you're both fools.”

A 'Book Club' colleague of Diane Keaton expressed that her passing 'deeply affected' them.

Within the identical interview, Keaton and Martin's lighthearted camaraderie was evident as Martin inquired, “Excluding Marty and myself, who ranks as the most disagreeable actor you've collaborated with?”

“Certainly, no one will ever annoy and vex me quite as much as you and Marty do. However, I won't be answering that question, as it would cause offense to someone. As for the worst? It's neither of you.”

Beyond reminiscing about the memorable conversation, Martin also shared a picture of Keaton on X on Saturday, captioned, “Adored! ‘La dee da,la dee da.’”

The next day, the star of Only Murders in the Building uploaded an image of a theater program to X, highlighting his own name and Diane Hall's, which was Keaton's credited name back then. (Keaton adopted her mother's maiden name upon her arrival in Hollywood because another performer was already listed as Diane Hall with the Actors' Equity Association.)

“This program dates back to a 1964 university rendition of Carousel. Diane ‘Hall’ (Keaton) played the main role; I served as a stage hand,” Martin clarified in his accompanying text.

Keaton, Martin, and Short collaborated in the films 1991’s Father of the Bride, 1995’s Father of the Bride Part II, and 2020’s Father of the Bride Part 3(ish).

“I appreciate both of you for the Father Of The Bride films. They are my enduring go-to comfort movies,” one individual remarked below the playbill picture, while another Instagram user noted, “It's remarkable you kept that for so long, Steve.”

Recordings of 911 calls indicate a 'person incapacitated' report from Diane Keaton's residence prior to her passing.

“I hadn't known your connection dated back so far. My deepest condolences for your loss. She was consistently among my preferred actresses, and I deeply regret her absence,” a third commenter expressed.

Other actors who worked with Keaton, such as Lauren Graham and Mandy Moore from Because I Said So, likewise honored the actress on social media. Graham, 58, shared an excerpt of a letter Keaton had penned to her prior to her demise, via Instagram on Monday, October 13.

“Kindly don't become a stranger. Do invite me to one of your meals. And lastly …. Remember to embrace yourself in the morning, and to pen your book, and avoid letting anxiety overwhelm you, you triumphant soul. With love, Di,” the correspondence partially stated, alluding to a book Graham later authored.
