Meghan King Loses Custody of Children Amidst Protective Services Inquiry

The Real Housewives of Orange County former cast member Meghan King has recently been stripped of parental custody of her three children shared with ex-husband Jim Edmonds, a decision made after a Child Protective Services inquiry, as Us Weekly reveals in an exclusive report.

According to several insiders speaking to Us, the choice to remove King's physical custody rights was finalized within the last few months. The erstwhile Bravo figure now has limited, supervised visits, while Edmonds holds exclusive physical custody. The same source indicates this ruling is provisional, with a future hearing scheduled to determine if the custody terms will be made conclusive.

The insider informed Us that a school staff member initiated the Child Protective Services contact regarding King, which then triggered the inquiry.

King and Edmonds were wed between 2014 and 2019. They finalized a divorce agreement in May 2021, consenting to joint custody for their daughter, Aspen, aged 8, and their 7-year-old twin sons, Hart and Hayes.

Us has discovered that a court session is slated for early December to resolve additional custody issues. Jim's representatives chose not to provide a statement. Us has attempted to contact King for her perspective.

As Us initially reported, police were summoned to King's location on May 1 following an altercation at Edmonds' residence involving his current spouse, Kortnie Edmonds, whom he wed in 2022.

Documents from the Frontenac Police Department outlined the dispute. Kortnie was identified as the “victim” and King as the “subject” in the report. According to the official records, Kortnie first sought to press charges against King.

The conflict began when King came to Jim and Kortnie’s house to deliver a dress for her daughter. Meghan states she discussed the dress with Jim prior to her arrival.

Kortnie opened the door and instructed Meghan that she could drop off the attire. Meghan insisted she needed to speak with her daughter. Kortnie then told Meghan that her daughter was absent, having gone out with Jim.

An insider associated with King alleged that Kortnie insisted she depart, but King declined, wishing instead to communicate with her daughter.

Kortnie informed law enforcement officers that she shut the door on Meghan after instructing her to drop off the garment. She stated she returned to her office, subsequently hearing Meghan calling for Aspen from inside the residence.

An officer documented Kortnie’s account in the report, noting, “Meghan declined to give Kortnie the dress and ‘recoiled while requesting to speak with’ [her daughter]. Kortnie informed Meghan that [her daughter] was not present and was attending a baseball game with Jim.”

“As Kortnie proceeded back to her office, she overheard Meghan within the residence, calling out for [her daughter],” the document stated. “Kortnie returned to the main entrance and saw Meghan positioned inside the house, roughly 5 feet from the threshold.” Kortnie recounted telling Meghan to vacate the premises.

Kortnie asserted that King “leisurely retreated” from the residence “but momentarily placed her foot in the doorway, preventing her from “fully closing the door.”

“Once Meghan withdrew her foot, Kortnie secured the door,” the report indicated following the conversation with Kortnie.

King did not face arrest or detention.

An insider informed Us then, “[King] is fed up with this ongoing dispute. She finds it absurd. It was a straightforward exchange that didn't warrant police involvement. [King] remains unperturbed as she wishes to avoid escalating conflict. Her sole desire is to peacefully care for her family.”

Kortnie contacted the police after their departure to convey her decision not to pursue charges. Jim appeared at the location subsequent to the officers' discussion with Kortnie, informing them he possessed security camera footage.

Law enforcement submitted the incident report to the Frontenac Municipal Prosecutor for consideration of charges, but on August 12, the prosecutor opted not to proceed.

Kortnie initiated a request for a restraining order on May 2. She later withdrew the filing after reaching a mutual accord with King on June 6. Under their agreement, they are forbidden from approaching each other, and King is restricted from discussing Kortnie on social media platforms.

During her conversation with the officers, King stated that Jim was “emotionally manipulative.”

She claimed, “He leverages his reputation and financial resources to control me.” Meghan asserted her innocence regarding any wrongdoing.

Jim’s representative dismissed King’s allegations. He had earlier informed Us, “Typically, Meghan is fabricating stories. She and Jim have minimal interaction, so if she is experiencing emotional abuse, it is not at Jim’s hand.”

“Jim actively participates and is a consistent father to all his children. The regrettable aspect of this situation is that the children bear the brunt of it. Jim has consistently been prepared to engage in respectful and constructive co-parenting, a sentiment Meghan has not yet returned,” the representative further stated.
