Meghan King Reflects on a 'Challenging' Year Amid Custody Resolution

Meghan King is looking back on her year as the holidays approach.

King, 41, posted a meme on Instagram Stories on Tuesday, December 23, that read, “It was a challenging year, but at least I didn’t purchase a Labubu.” She added her own commentary to the post, writing, “However, a number of ‘extraordinary’ events transpired,” adding the abbreviation for “just saying” and a shrug emoji.

The former Real Housewives of Orange County cast member seemed to be referencing her recently resolved custody dispute with ex-husband Jim Edmonds.

King and Edmonds, 55, were married from 2014 to 2019. After their divorce, the former couple shared custody of their three children: daughter Aspen, 8, and twins Hart and Hayes, 7. However, Us Weekly reported in November that King had lost her physical custody rights and was granted supervised visits with their children.

A source informed Us at the time that the decision to remove King’s custody rights followed a report from a school employee to Child Protective Services regarding the mother of three. Initially, a hearing was scheduled to determine King’s custody rights, but it was canceled after King and Edmonds reached an agreement.

“The custody hearing has been canceled,” Edmonds’ representative, Steve Honig, told Us earlier this month. “Both sides have reached an understanding that is in the best interests of the children.”

A second source told Us that the children are expected to reside with their father in Tennessee full time and spend several weeks with King each summer.

Neither King nor Edmonds — who married Kortnie Edmonds in September 2022 — have publicly commented on the custody disagreement.

Shortly after finalizing their custody arrangement, King shared a photograph with all three of her children while celebrating the holiday season.

“Visited the holiday market and only spent money on this,” she captioned an Instagram post on December 13, as all three children played a claw machine game. “We are a claw-machine-loving family!”

After the photo gained popularity, multiple sources shared additional details about the custody agreement with Us — providing further information on why King was permitted to be with the children when Edmonds has primary custody.

“Jim and Meghan can mutually consent to her spending time with the children,” one source explained. “Jim wants it to appear on paper that he has full custody but it’s not necessarily practical. The children are with Meghan frequently.”

A second insider explained that the children will spend “a few days” with King around Christmas, which is part of the agreement they established.

“The reason Meghan has been seen with the children recently is that Jim was being generous and allowed her to see them before the permanent relocation,” the same source added.

Several of King’s former RHOC colleagues have expressed support for their friend as the custody issues continue to generate headlines.

“Meghan and I are friends, and I will stand by her and support her,” Alexis Bellino told Us Weekly exclusively this month. “All I can say is that it’s very difficult, and I simply adore her and it’s not easy. I don’t believe everything I read. I would speak with her before I could comment on anything further.”
