Meghan Markle Reaches Out to Father Thomas After Leg Amputation
Meghan Markle has reportedly reached out to her father, Thomas Markle, following emergency surgery that resulted in the amputation of his left leg.
On Friday, December 5, a representative for the 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex affirmed to Us Weekly, “I can confirm she has made contact with her father.”
Thomas Markle Jr., son of Thomas, verified with The Daily Mail on Friday that his 81-year-old father underwent an operation in the Philippines on Wednesday, December 3. This was necessitated by a blood clot severely restricting blood flow to his left leg, which subsequently darkened and required a below-the-knee amputation.
“My father is showing immense courage. His foot rapidly discolored from blue to black. I brought him to a nearby medical facility where scans and an ultrasound confirmed the necessity of amputating the leg,” the 59-year-old Thomas Jr. informed the publication. “There was no alternative. I was advised that the leg required removal, as it was a matter of survival.”

Thomas Jr. further mentioned that his father is anticipated to have an additional surgical procedure to extract a blood clot from his left thigh. He highlighted that medical professionals are “gravely worried” about his father's condition.
“According to one of his physicians, the upcoming two to three days are crucial. His left leg has been amputated beneath the knee. Concerns arose regarding potential infection, such as sepsis or gangrene, as the tissue was dark and necrotic,” he elaborated. “No other course of action was presented. The choice was clear: ‘We must operate immediately and remove the leg, or he faces mortality.’ It was a situation imperiling his life.”
On Tuesday, December 2, The Daily Mail disclosed that Thomas had been admitted to the hospital and placed in intensive care for an unspecified ailment.
“I brought my father to a medical facility near our residence, where numerous scans were performed, and doctors indicated his life was in immediate peril,” Thomas Jr. shared with the publication on Wednesday. “They urgently transported us via ambulance, with sirens blaring, to a significantly larger hospital in the city center.”
He subsequently requested that “people globally remember him in their prayers.”
Samantha, 61, Thomas’ daughter, informed the outlet that her father is a “resilient individual” who has “endured a great deal.”
“I am hopeful that he possesses the strength to overcome this,” she stated. “My father has experienced two heart attacks, a stroke, and an earthquake. I trust he can recover from this.”
Thomas Jr. and Samantha are the offspring of Thomas from his initial marriage. He has Meghan with his former spouse, Doria Ragland.

Meghan and Thomas have maintained a strained relationship since her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry. Prior to the wedding, he faced allegations of orchestrating paparazzi photographs.

Is this accurate?’ He replied, ‘No,’” Meghan recounted in a segment of Netflix’s 2022 documentary series Harry & Meghan. “During that conversation, I told him, ‘Listen. If they can't prevent this news from breaking, it will be published tomorrow, so why don't we dispatch someone to your residence immediately to remove you from there, because if this is true, your home will be overrun by the press. We will assist your departure.’”
She went on to say, “He responded, ‘No. I have commitments to attend to.’ And it struck me as highly evasive. I thought, ‘This isn't logical.’ And after we ended the call, I turned to Harry. I remarked, ‘I'm unsure why, but I find his account untrustworthy.’”
