Mel and Peg Forge Ahead Post Golden Bachelor Without a Ring but with a Packed Travel Schedule

Mel Owens found his ideal partner in Peg Munson during The Golden Bachelor's season two conclusion, vowing to dedicate himself to their connection — despite the absence of a formal proposal.

“Honestly, I developed feelings for Peg the instant I laid eyes on her, and those feelings only intensified with time,” the 66-year-old Mel revealed in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on Thursday, November 13, the day following the two-hour final episode on ABC.

In the concluding moments of the episode, Mel presented Peg, 62, with a diamond commitment ring from Neil Lane, and subsequently affirmed during After the Final Rose that the pair is content and deeply enamored. They shared with Us that significant joint endeavors are already on their agenda — festive excursions among them.

“Indeed, we’ve made numerous arrangements. This weekend, we’re heading to Vegas simply to unwind at my residence. Following that, our destination is Michigan,” Peg disclosed, as Mel brought up an event named the Hob Nobble Gobble, scheduled for Friday, November 21, in his native Detroit.

“Subsequently, we intend to journey to Toronto and then onwards to Montreal, a city I’ve never visited,” Mel further stated. “Therefore, we will explore those metropolitan areas and spend some time there.”

The couple, Mel and Peg, will then observe Thanksgiving at a friend’s residence prior to witnessing what is dubbed the “foremost game in college football” side-by-side: the clash between the University of Michigan and Ohio State on Saturday, November 29, at Michigan Stadium.

Even though Mel is an ardent football enthusiast — having played for Michigan and professionally in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams — Peg is still familiarizing herself with the collegiate tier of the sport.

“My allegiance has always been with the NFL. My father was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so I spent years following the Steelers. Later, upon joining the fire department, it was a common pastime among colleagues. Thus, it's simply something I've consistently done,” she explained to Us. “However, I will now delve into college football.”

“She’s acquiring the knowledge quickly,” Mel chimed in.

Subsequent to their stay in Detroit, the duo intends to celebrate Christmas in Rio de Janeiro.

“Our intention is to pass three weeks in Rio for the Christmas season,” Peg stated. “Following that, we’ll return in February. We’re attending the Super Bowl. Clearly, our schedule is quite full.”

Mel highlighted that Peg had overlooked a significant occasion: his birthday!

“We’ll return to Vegas for my birthday to experience The Wizard of Oz, a film I deeply cherish, [at the Sphere],” Mel mentioned, referring to his December 7 birth anniversary.

Mel Owens Is a Different Kind of Bachelor — Is ABC’s Risk Paying Off?

Even though the program concluded without a proposal, Mel and Peg unmistakably share a profound commitment. Mel conveyed to Us that he recognized he wouldn't feel at ease proposing at the close of the journey, and that Peg — in contrast to runner-up Cindy Cullers, who opted to leave due to his choice — fully comprehended his sentiments.

“[Peg] resides in Las Vegas. I reside in Southern California. It’s a 45-minute flight. A four-hour drive. Therefore, I foresee us [spending] considerable time together,” Mel informed Us. “Thus, any engagement, any marriage, will unfold further down the line. And that’s precisely what I communicated to Cindy. I said, ‘That needs to evolve organically over time. Not simply at the culmination of the program.’ Because I was with these women in person for less than a full 24 hours. It’s insufficient time for me, personally. That’s why Peg and I chose to dedicate time to each other, to genuinely get acquainted, and then whatever transpires from that point will transpire. And should it lead to marriage, we will certainly announce it.”

Peg was in complete agreement.

“I was aware of my affection for Mel, and I recognized my profound feelings for him, just as I knew his feelings for me were equally strong,” she recounted to Us on Thursday. “Our desire was simply to progress, to cultivate our romantic narrative, and to shape it according to our own terms. Not as a fictionalized ideal or in the manner Bachelor traditions dictate. We simply had to remain authentic to ourselves.”
