Mel and Peg Reveal Why Their Golden Bachelor Romance Is Conflict-Free
Mel Owens and Peg Munson continue to enjoy the post-show bliss after successfully pairing up on The Golden Bachelor.
“At 62 years old, we have no reason to argue,” Peg stated during the Thursday, December 11, broadcast of the “Dear Shandy” podcast. “Senior couples shouldn't engage in conflict because, frankly, there's nothing left to dispute.”
She added, “If a couple is fighting at this age, something's amiss; it makes no sense. The major life challenges are behind us, leaving no room for conflict.”
Mel, 66, and Peg connected during the second season of The Golden Bachelor, which concluded recently. While they didn't get engaged during the finale, they departed the show as a committed couple. Mel presented his partner with a diamond promise ring and the ultimate final rose instead of an engagement ring.

Mel agreed that their shared passions contribute to a lack of friction in their relationship.
“I have a music playlist, and I thought, ‘I know she’ll enjoy this playlist,’ and she did,” the former NFL athlete shared on Thursday. “We come from similar environments, and she constantly dances. I knew, ‘She’s the one for me.’ It's genuinely enjoyable.”
Mel and Peg also indicated that they haven't faced significant obstacles in their pairing thus far.
“She resides in [Las] Vegas, and I reside in Orange County, but I flew in this morning,” Mel said about their geographical separation. “The flight was so quick; I noted that the elapsed time from waking up to landing was only three hours, which is faster than driving. That distance might be a minor challenge, but beyond that, there are no real issues.”
Peg, for her part, mentioned that scheduling time together with Mel is straightforward due to her retirement status.

“I retired 13 years prior,” Peg, a former bomb technician, clarified. “I've returned to interior design and real estate house flipping. I select projects I'm interested in, which allows for flexibility. It's simple for me to do things when and how I choose. I feel fortunate in that regard, and we both possess the health necessary to maintain this lifestyle.”
Peg and Mel, both having families from prior relationships, formed an unforeseen connection within the Bachelor Mansion.
“Mel and I felt an instant connection. Both of us recognized it,” Peg exclusively told Us Weekly in November about developing feelings during the Golden Bachelor. “We talked extensively in the fantasy suite and shared wonderful conversations. We deepened our understanding of each other, and the bond was solid.”
Mel openly discussed his reluctance to consider another engagement following his divorce during the show, a sentiment fully understood by Peg, who also experienced divorce.
“It’s essential to truly get acquainted with someone before rushing into an engagement or marriage,” she stated. “Mel and I both have a realistic perspective; we desired a solid foundation and a genuine connection. We avoid chasing unrealistic fantasies, which never prove successful. We are both mature enough — and wise enough — to recognize that's simply not practical.”
Meanwhile, Peg informed Us that the couple "arranged many activities" together during the upcoming festive period.
“We plan to visit Toronto, followed by Montreal, a location I've never experienced,” Mel revealed last month. “Therefore, we will explore those cities together for some time.”
