Michelle Williams' Dawson's Creek Days: A Foundation Built by Grams
Michelle Williams, though emerging from a teen drama, found that her tenure on Dawson’s Creek provided the crucial foundation that propelled her professional trajectory.
Williams starred in the popular WB series from 1998 to 2003 as Jen Lindley, the New York City native who moved to the quaint community of Capeside, Massachusetts. Williams revealed that it was her costar Mary Beth Peil, who played Jen’s Grams, that offered her the most profound inspiration during filming in Wilmington, North Carolina.
"She shared anecdotes about New York City, about theatre, and about playwrights. She invited me to stay with her, she took me to places, and she spoke to me about this environment where I could build a life, establish a career, and engage in truly fulfilling and exciting work, and she assured me that this was a possibility for me," Williams explained. "Even though I was part of, like, a youth-oriented soap opera, she would discuss with me, like, the future and what that could entail for me."
Williams subsequently became an extensively acclaimed actress, garnering multiple Golden Globes, Emmys, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild Awards throughout her career. She has also secured five Academy Award nominations since her initial nod for Brokeback Mountain in 2006.
However, her life has also been marked by profound tragedy. In 2007, two years after she and then-partner Heath Ledger welcomed their daughter Matilda in 2005, Ledger died from an accidental overdose.
