Mitt Romney's Sister-in-Law Carrie Elizabeth Romney Dies in Apparent Fall

The sister-in-law of Mitt Romney, identified as Carrie Elizabeth Romney, was discovered deceased in a parking facility in the Los Angeles region on Friday, October 10.

“Our family is deeply saddened by Carrie's passing, as she enriched all our lives with warmth and affection. We kindly request privacy during this challenging period,” a spokesperson for the erstwhile U.S. senator communicated to People in a statement issued on Monday, October 13.

Carrie's demise occurred at the age of 64. As reported by People, authorities from Los Angeles County were dispatched approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, arriving at a parking structure situated in Valencia, a suburban area bordering L.A.

A spokesperson for the L.A. County Sheriff verified to the publication that a female either leaped or fell from a parking facility, described as a five-story building adjacent to a Hyatt hotel. The county medical examiner’s office recorded Carrie’s location of death as “street” on its online portal. As of Monday, it indicated her cause of death was “deferred” while awaiting additional inquiry. Her remains were noted as “ready for release.”

Mitt, aged 78, held the position of Massachusetts governor from 2003 to 2007, and pursued the presidency as a Republican candidate in 2008, withdrawing from the contest to endorse John McCain. He initiated a subsequent campaign for the Oval Office in 2012, eventually conceding to former President Barack Obama. Subsequently, he entered the Senate, serving Utah from 2019 until earlier this year. Mitt declared in 2023 his intention to step down from public service upon the conclusion of his term.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Carrie — a resident of Valencia, a community bordering L.A. — is the spouse of Mitt’s elder brother, G. Scott Romney, an attorney.
