Nicole Kidman's Whirlwind Romance History: From Cruise to Urban and Beyond

Beyond her celebrated acting career, Nicole Kidman’s romantic relationships have also frequently captured public attention.

The Babygirl actress first encountered Tom Burlinson while working on their 1986 film, Windrider. The pair then embarked on a three-year relationship.

Kidman subsequently had a brief romance with Marcus Graham before beginning a relationship with Tom Cruise after a rapid connection on the set of the 1990 film Days of Thunder. The couple exchanged vows later that year and adopted two children together: Isabella and Connor in 1992 and 1995, respectively.

Following 11 years as a married couple, Cruise and Kidman decided to go their separate ways in 2001.

After their separation, Kidman was linked to Lenny Kravitz before entering a relationship with Keith Urban in 2005. The couple exchanged vows in 2006 and welcomed daughters Sunday and Faith in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

In September 2025, an insider confirmed to Us Weekly that Kidman and Urban had parted ways after nearly two decades together. Their divorce was formally completed in January 2026.

Tom Burlinson

The pair initially met while filming the 1986 romantic comedy Windrider. Kidman and Burlinson dated for three years before ultimately ending their relationship.

“Nicole Kidman and I collaborated on a film, Windrider, in 1986 and dated for three years. I was eleven years older, and it marked her first romantic relationship with a man as an adult,” Burlinson revealed to the Sydney Morning Herald in February 2020. “We shared happy times, but she had her own path to follow in life. One thing that has been inaccurately reported about us is that I proposed marriage and she declined.”

Following his split from Burlinson, Kidman dated Graham in the ‘80s before eventually moving on to date Cruise.

“I don’t have any negative comments to make about Nicole,” Graham stated in a July 2023 interview with Woman’s Day. “We were both in our early twenties and young and ambitious. A brilliant, beautiful, talented actress meets a major Hollywood movie star, and he says, ‘Come with me.’ I think you say, ‘Go, are you crazy?’ It must have been wonderful for her.”

Graham noted that he felt “devastated and heartbroken” at the time, but he doesn’t harbor any resentment toward Kidman.

At the time, I cried for a considerable period. I was truly hurt and confused, but I had much to learn about the world.”

They shared a whirlwind romance and married on New Year’s Eve in 1990 before subsequently adopting daughter Isabella in 1992 and son Connor in 1995. The couple separated in 2001 after 11 years of marriage.

“I was willing to relinquish everything,” Kidman told Vanity Fair in November 2002 after Cruise initiated divorce proceedings. “I now recognize that as a part of who I am. I’m prepared to do that—I do it when I make a film, too. I’m willing to surrender, to be consumed, to be intoxicated. I want to feel alive—I want to be swept away, essentially. I was swept away by Tom, and I loved it, and I would have traveled to the ends of the earth. That meant sacrificing a great deal of what was important to me.”

Kidman and the country singer first met at the G’Day USA Gala in 2005. Despite Urban waiting several months before contacting Kidman, the pair eventually married in 2006. They subsequently welcomed daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret in 2008 and 2011, respectively.

“I met him later in life, and it’s been the most wonderful thing that’s ever happened to me,” Kidman stated during a CBS Mornings interview in January 2022. “That man is the absolute best thing that’s ever happened to me. We’re a blend. We’re very well-suited [for each other]. I’m incredibly fortunate to have found him.”

After nearly two decades of marriage, an insider confirmed to Us in September 2025 that Urban and Kidman had decided to separate.

Court documents obtained by Us indicated that the couple finalized their split in January 2026. Neither party will receive alimony or spousal support, according to the paperwork.
